I'm not trying to pee in anyone's cornflakes. Chuck has funny parts, that's a lot of its charm, but so does House and I don't see it in this category either.
I just thought this category were shows who's purpose was to elicit laughter.

No worries I certainly don't think that's what you're doing - you just see the show differently than I do perhaps - to me, it's way more a comedy than anything else but like I said, I'll leave it to the powers that be to decide as I'm certainly not too concerned over where it ends up.

This is the only mini series I have ever watched that I enjoyed, so I had to snap it up. It's the only category where I had no other options.
But it's awesome!! Good story, good acting, Colin Firth.
It seems we are also on the same wavelength with regards to the menfolk. Colin Firth is definitely a lovely, lovely, delicious man.

Uh oh, here's more girly stuff, sorry guys.
I also love Colin Firth. His storyline in Love Actually is my favorite.

Are you saying that for one hour you are open to anyone? I think this needs to be in the CP confessional thread...

IMO, Chuck definitely fits in the Comedy category. It certainly isn't a drama.
I do think we need a definition of sitcom vs open comedy though.
Right now, Arrested Development is in open, but although it wasn't a standard 3 camera, shot on a soundstage in front of an audience "sitcom", it was still a sitcom. The same could be said for Entourage, or any of the shows on NBC's Thursday night lineup this season, for that matter.
In the most basic sense, a sitcom is any comedy featuring recurring characters in "everyday" situations. Of course, the situations most sitcom characters find themselves in aren't typical situations that you or I would find ourselves in, but that's where the comedy comes from.

In that case, I think Arrested Development and Entourage need to move.

I dont think either of those would qualify as a sitcom...how bout a sitcom is taped for a live audience?

I'm fine with that ruling, but then a lot of solid sitcoms wouldn't qualify.
For example, none of NBC's current sitcoms are recorded in front of an audience.
Also, my last selection, Corner Gas, is definitely a sitcom, but it's not shot in front of an audience.

From Wiki- might help define "sitcom"--
Quote:
As opposed to standup comedy, or the telling of jokes, the situation comedy has a storyline plot and is more or less comedic drama. The essence of the current, modern situation comedy on television is that the characters remain in the same situation from episode to episode. The situation is usually that of a family, workplace, or a group of friends. The term was adopted to distinguish the sitcom from other comedy formats: sketch comedy, which generally featured new characters and situations each outing, or the humorous monologue or dialogue, which did not feature characters. Often these other formats were presented within a variety format mixed with musical performances, as in vaudeville. The emerging mass medium of radio allowed audiences to return to programs over and over, which allowed programs to return to the same characters and situations each episode and expect audiences to be familiar with them. Thus, while the humor in sitcoms varies, it is usually character-driven, which may result in running gags during the series.
Due to the need to retain the same situation over many episodes, in many sitcoms characters remained largely static. Events of individual episodes typically resolve themselves by the end, and are rarely mentioned in subsequent episodes. This episodic nature is mirrored in many dramas as well, but there are also many sitcoms that feature story arcs across many episodes, where the characters and situations slowly change over the course of their run.
