Won't happen, because when I get busted for doing something I'm not supposed to be doing, I don't go and complain about it to everyone on CP.
Hell, I got a red light camera ticket a few months back and I wasn't complaining, I know I wasn't paying attention and I scotted through when the light was changing and I took my lumps.
I hope you learn about the laws that pertain to you and your dog so this doesn't happen agian

why not just let him go with a warning since there was no one around. Why don't they try to educate people about the bylaws? Send stuff out with renewals of licenses or when they sign up for a licence. I have never recieved anything from the city regarding that.

People have a responsiblity to educate themselves. Clearly the original poster has a computer. Could he not have educated himself on the bylaws?

while we're at it lets send out pamphlets reminding people that killing is wrong.
nothing happened this time, i'm sure drunk drivers use the same logic. I didnt kill anyone this time whats the harm guess I can do it again.

Oh I was upset alright, that ticket cost me the happy hour bar tab that evening...I was very upset at myself for cheaping out on that 50 cents because I thought I could get back in time. It wasn't even a meter maid that tagged me, I got a nice picture of my car in the mail from the ghost van!
I would've counted myself extremely lucky if they somehow threw out that ticket, which I've tried by filing for an administrative review, to no avail. So now I suck it up and pay the $40.
I'm no bigger than anyone, I get upset about tickets just as easily. I just don't whine about it on a message board expecting sympathy instead of getting flamed for my own ignorance of the law.

Sorry if this has been stated already as I am entering this thread late.
Couldnt this all have been avoided if the developer of that incredibly high dense residential area would have carved out a few of those row houses in that area and made at least one off leash area? Or maybe the city figures that "off leash" needs to be a vast area like a nosehill park?

This annoys me to no end, and I have occasionally ended up taking him to the "no dog zone" for a play at the end of the day, so far no one has complained or busted me. As for the bylaw officers, our new neighbour, who rents the house next door, has managed to accumulate a very impressive pile of garbage in his yard since June, and despite my calls to the city, nothing has been done. This guy has threatened my husband, and nailed blue plastic sheeting to our fence so we can't "see" him. Which is the bigger problem to the city? Dogs playing ball or some psycho who collects garbage and threatens people?? Sorry for the rant as my first post, had to get it off my chest.
|
This is what annoys me to no end. We've tried to get neighbours who parked their cars on their lawn ticketed and nothing ever came of it. Instead they are chasing homeless people sleeping outside and guys playing fetch.

your seriously comparing drunk drivers to someone who had their dog off leash?
Come on man!
All I was saying is why doesn't the city try to educate people on bylaws? There are lots of people that move here and would have no idea, and guess what there are some people in this world that dont have a computer or have one and dont know how to use it, I'm not saying the OP fits in that group i'm just saying as a whole.

I wouldn't go that far, I'd say it's more like the city should send out pamphlets on parking by-laws to every registered car owner, afterall this won't cost the taxpayer a dime anyways at the expense of ignorant people.

Maybe you're right, but that's a development & planning issue, not a by-law enforcement issue like the OP is complaining about.

But I am one of those d-bags that will tell someone to fight a speeding ticket, although it is not as useful anymore as you can't just plead guilty as the registered owner...
There is just some people that seem to be ready to lynch this guy because *GASP* he had the audacity to take his dog off a leash in an area that was CLEARLY not intended for that purpose.
|
That's not why everyone is piling on.
It's the fact that he is making a big fuss about getting a ticket for something that a responsible dog owner should have known he wasn't supposed to be doing.
Moreover, when people call him on it, he gets really defensive and throws out things like "If you don't have a dog why are you reading this thread"
In my experience, people that complain the most about things like bylaw officers and poor customer service, and say things like "hey I was being nice and he was just a jerk to me" are generally prone to overstatemenat and are usually the cause of, not the victum of someone being a jerk. And by the way he's reacted in this thread, I'd say he's making it seem more and more likely that that is the case.

as far as I am concerned fines are user fees for stupid people who don't want to follow the rules. Whether it be speeding, dogs off leash, or public urinating.
to the best of my knowledge there isn't a major city in Canada that allows dogs to run free with no consequence to the owners.

I'd like to meet you in person before you go and generalise me into a catagory, or a "type" of person based on a warning to dog walkers. you should get a ticket for be ignorant that Shantz was a terrible player. Having a sig like that is a crime in itself. I could assume many things about you based on your posts. I'm an honest guy. And the reason I started this wasn't for anyones pity, it was a warning to dog walkers. it wasn't intended for "I told you so" type people like you. Hopefully it saves another Calgarian from getting a useless ticket. I hope you quit wasting your time trying to police people on the internet, it not very becoming. you were a tattletale/told you so/fingerpointer in school weren't you? I'm just basing this on your posts though.

That said you know what else is fun about the Pink tickets ######bags give out (not yellow like traffic ones cops give)... they turn into arrest warrents....
My friend and roommate needed to register his dog/puppy so since I work downtown I did it for him, but I had to do it in my name... no biggy to wither of us at the time. About a year later a ######bag (who knew via computer system there was a dog with an expired tag) comes to my house and demands to see the dogs license, which had expired by about a month, and becuase it was in my name I get a pink ticket for $150. I gave ticket to my friend and thought nothing more of it... he ofcourse didn't pay the ticket on time and so then the police came to my house with an arrest warrent for me and took me to the station, where I was thankfully allowed to pay the fine + late fees or else I was spending the night in jail. Oh ya they sent two cops for *this* dangerous criminal at 9:30pm at night, told me I was lucky becuase after 10pm no one would have been around to process the ticket payment and I would have been put in downtown jail with all those other scumbags, we made with a whole 5 minutes to spare and they took their sweet time... yep... but we need more cops in this city. There are just so many animal tickets that need to be enforced by arrest that they have no time for gangs, shootings and drunk drivers.

I agree. This thread hopefully educates a few others that were unaware as well.
