thanks TIPS. If the FAKE COP would've told me that, and let it be I wouldn't be writing this. It was an unused field where I was giving my dog some exercise. maybe 700m long or so. he drove his truck out there?
sorry man, I'm just a little steamed. I know now that its serious stuff

For every dog owner like you, there's a guy doing 120 on Deerfoot who'd say the same thing about the real cops.
The point is, laws & by-laws exist for a reason, just count yourself unlucky this time and deal with it.
Again, I don't mean to sound harsh, but if you can afford to have a dog, a hundred bucks isn't gonna break your bank. Just put your buddy on a leash or go to an off-leash park next time.

I guess it was the school that had called bylaw to stop people from taking their dogs onto the school yard.

Which would be completely understandable, I'm sure a lot of parents wouldn't want their kids to go to a school where strangers' dogs run around in the playground/school yard unleashed.

Agreed we have that problem on our street, dog owners with their dogs walking along and no leash. One of the kids on our street is scared (like piss your pants scared of dogs). When the father of that child said something to a dog owner he was told "the dog is harmless"....mean while he has to comfort his terrified child....

This is what a responsible pet owner looks like. I think OP can learn a lot from shane.

See the problem is, people like that^ deserve tickets. I was on a baseball diamond playing fetch with nobody within a 1/2 km of me. can you see the difference? I'm not the problem. I clean up after my dog and keep him on the leash until we play in the park. if other people are around or other dogs, he stays on the leash.

That's me and they are always on their leash.
Even here in NS we have 2 acres and until we're able to fence a part of it off they will be on their leashes. We did however buy 2 - 30 or 40 foot leads that we take them in the yard on and they can run around.

Add bike paths to the places where leashes are always mandatory. It always freaks me out when I'm biking and there is an unleashed dog nearby. My wife actually had an unleashed dog lunge at her a few years back, while she was riding her bike. Of course, the owner was right there, and didn't do much about it either.

Yeah, but the bylaw officer had no idea you weren't one of those people.
All he saw was a person with a dog offleash in an area, that apparently has been the source of some complaints.
As for the no signs up, geeze, I don't even have a dog and I know that the city has leash laws everywhere unless it is specifically an off leash area.

Why? What can the possible reason be for not allowing someone to play fetch with their dog in an empty park? Who is that hurting? I admit that there are some A-Holes that don't pick up after their dog but they are going to do that whether the dog in on a leash or not.
Why does someone have to drive to an off leash area?

Just curious I suppose.
Besides, I figured it would be someone complaining about getting "Screwed" over something they should have known not to be doing.
