During the Nolan era, the 49ers have had single-game passer ratings of 7.5 (Cody Pickett), 8.5 (Alex Smith) and 23.3 (Trent Dilfer).

So this was a blowout: O’Sullivan’s 123.3 rating was the highest by a 49ers quarterback since Jeff Garcia posted a 130.3 against the Bengals on Dec. 14, 2003. (That was Dennis Erickson’s first year as coach.)

Well it's only three weeks in, but I think the NFC East has proven that it is by far the toughest Division in the NFL. A cumulative 10-2 record with the only losses being the inter division games. I think Dallas and Philly look to be the two top teams so far, I'd like to see the Giants play either team to get a better feel for them. The other three Divisions could be pretty close in the NFC as there are 2-3 teams who may be good enough to win those divisions.

Toughest division in North American pro sports is more like it. You have three Super Bowl contenders in that division and another who is capable of making the playoffs. Also agreed on Philly looking better than the Giants. I was about to say this but I see you did already. I'm curious to see how long Westbrook will be out, sounds like its only day-to-day and he may miss just one game(if that). They need him in the line-up, he's arguably the best RB in the league, when you consider how all-purpose he is.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports Saints TE Jeremy Shockey will miss the next 3-6 weeks with sports hernia surgery.

I have seriously never seen a team this beat up this early into a season before...in any sport. This is 10 times worse than the '06-'07 Oilers.

Shockey injured and going to miss time? I'm shocked!

So off the top of my head, here's the walking wounded list for the Saints:

Marques Colston- #1 WR
David Patten- #2 WR
Adrian Arrington- rookie WR(IR)
Jeremy Shockey- #1 TE
Mark Campbell- back-up TE
Jammal Brown- #1 LT and Pro Bowler
Deuce McAllister- #1 RB
Aaron Stecker- back-up RB & kick returner
Mike McKenzie- #1 CB(though he finally returned yesterday on a limited basis)
Randall Gay- #2 CB
Aaron Glenn- #4 CB
Hollis Thomas- #1 DT
Bryan Young- #2 DT
Antwan Lake- back-up DT
DeMario Pressley- rookie DT(IR)
Roman Harper- #1 SS(though he may be ok for next week)
Scott Fujita- #1 OLB
Mark Simaneou- back-up MLB(IR)

...11 starters, along with other key players, and its only September. I have never seen a season like this before.

I think the guys who might come back next week should take an extra week off. It's only the 49ers so why rush back to re-injure yourselves. Better one extra week now than 3 or 4 more.

Edit: And Gay, Harper and Young were "Probable" for Week 3. None of them played?

Young didn't. Gay and Harper did, but both re-aggravated injuries during the game.

...and yes thats the one good news in all of this. We haven't lost any starters for the season yet, just lots of nicks and bumps keeping people out(with the exception of Colston and Shockey, who will both be out until around Hallowe'en)...and McKenzie and McAllister are rehabbing from off-season surgery. As long as the injury bug finally goes away, we should be fully healthy by mid-season.

ESPN reporting that Al Harris may miss the rest of the season with a ruptured spleen.

Really bad news for GB as they predicate their base defense on the CB's being able to go one on one with WR's. We saw that effect last night as TO did nothing but some one named Miles Austin shredded the secondary for over a 100 yds and 2 TD's on 2 catches.

That is bad news. Was that the play where they said they thought he had the breath knocked out of him? Or am I think of something else?

Yup.

Very innocent looking play too, and was actually a collision with his own player (Woodson IIRC) that looked like something that happens 100 times every game.

Well, it would cost me about $100 and I don't really want to spend it. Besides, my son (13) has never been to an NFL game and I think it would kill me emotionally to go without him.

1982. I watched the Joe Montana led 49ers whip the Chiefs on a frigid December day on which Chiefs legend Jack Rudnay played his last NFL game. Afterward, I got my picture taken with Russ Francis and autographs from a bunch of guys I really didnt' know much about then...including Joe Montana and Bill Walsh. Lost the program with the autos. Art Still was the only Chief I got. All of this was done in a Broncos coat and toque! That was my first NFL game.

Whoa right now on the Saints site they are showing the 3rd and 1 play that stalled the last NO drive of the game.

The Denver LB lined up on the wrong side of the ball and it wasn't called. Wow.

He didn't look limited to me at all. He was everywhere and usually on the right end of the play....except when Marshall was involved. McKenzie looked great.

I agree he looked great, it was awesome to see him back. I mean he was limited in the sense that he was only being used in nickel packages...until Gay got hurt, then they had to throw him into one of the starting spots. Near the end of the game they had taken McKenzie out(I'm sure as a precaution) and rolled with David and Porter as the starters.

Jason David covering Brandon Marshall scared the bejeezus out of me.

For crying out loud, what's the deal in Denver? I was yelling at the TV about that call, brutal. The hits seem to keep coming for the Saints, though Brees and Bush were phenomenal, time to fish or cut bait with McAllister, either he can go or not. The lack of a big back has arguably lost the Saints their last two games.

Oh and Brandon Marshall is a beast.

They should have called it, but it was a terrible play call, and if he was onside it would have been stuffed anyway.
