i agree czure. i think too often, we hit our breakout passes to the guy farthest up the ice who fires a shot from the faceoff dot area, the cpu goalie has zero problem making the save, and then the other team has the puck again. we get basically zero puck movement.

Ha! That pretty much does cover it. Once the second goal went in I thought "well, there goes our chance at a shootout".

I agree with czure. How many games have you guys played where they score a huge goal that is nothing more than a wrister from the point that bounces around or goes through a screen? I know I've seen a bunch. I think we need a way to gain the zone, get our dmen to stick at the points and find ways to get it back to them.

Whenever I'm playing wing I'm brutally guilty of doing the same thing over and over again. Basically I rush into the zone and just before I get stapled into the boards, i let off a low percentage shot. Many of us seem to do this or something similar and it (apparently) isn't terribly effective (edit: pretty much what dobbles says above). I think we might need to designate somebody a quarter back for a game or two and let him just try and direct traffic. Doesn't have to be overly complicated, just something like "when I gain the zone, skate like hell to the corner, I'll throw it around the boards to you, then you toss it back to the dman who takes the shot while the three forwards crash the net like the goalie owes us money".

last night i did play 1 game and i was goalie, so i got the chance to just watch the guys in their zone. i saw them effectively use the area behind the net and also once they got to the corners, throw the puck behind the net to the other side. that then allowed more space and got the point guys involved.

I think a lot of teams have been doing that ^^ to us. Time to join the big leagues!

On a side note, I'm starting to think we can max this team out with 50 members. More and more friends seem to be coming out of the wood-work. Excellent to see.

i have basically been adding anyone that has asked as i assume that any CP'er that wants on has already told us so. hopefully we don't totally fill up and have some wiggle room without having to kick captain canada off the team!

Throw in 2 or 3 tripping penalties a game and you have me to a tee

Hey fellas, good to see lots of games played over the weekend, can't wait to get back on the *cough* ice tonight.
I think the discussion about goals is right on, we need to start playing down deep with the puck. In the games I've played, if we don't get a shot on the rush, we're pretty much screwed...so we need to start setting up and feeding the points when they get open.
Again, right on with the fact that most goals scored against us are point shots or passes into the slot after a lengthy cycle.

Our defensive game is pretty good right now I think, we just need to get some pressure in the offensive zone.
It's awesome to see the team grow, can't wait to keep on movin' up in Div 1

Oh, and big time thumbs up to dobbles for keeping cpfatas.com rolling right along. If any of you guys on the team haven't checked it out, do it.
Also, thanks to Cliche for posting the stats update, that's awesome.

I found puck control works fairly well, bring the puck in on the wing stop at the side boards and wait for a pass or give it to the defense to slap it, a lot of my online goals are that way.

Our wireless is down but playing the BAP mode is more than enough for me right now. So fun!

Hopefully I can join team fata by the weekend.

I'm kind of annoyed they crippled the Classic controls. you can only poke check with them, and to do a pass block, you would have to dive to block passes.

Most of the time, it's better to set defense to collapse. so that when the blue arrow comes up, it'll indicate to the D to go to the front of the net and box out any intruders, especially in the slot.

There is a real difference in stick and skate selection. The radii of the skates you choose definitely affects how fast you can chase down pucks and overall agility as well. Shifty guys who can pull off the dekes should definitely pick the smallest radii skates, (9") as changes in direction can be sudden. The largest radii skates(13") are great for bombing the corner, if the player archetype has any kind of speed or acceleration at all. Real problem turning though, as guys who can sidestep you often will. Great for those end to end rushes. Not so much anything else.

When I'm in the slot, the first inclination is to shoot. Period. Like a bank robber, you go where the money is, you go to the front of the net. You can pick up garbage, or, if the guy on the wing passes it to you, there's a chance at getting a screened shot as well, which only human players can block or catch. Unless you get clubbed immediately by the two guys there, which even then, you should be able to get a shot off. Don't bother deking in the slot. Just shoot. Your release is critical as time to getting the puck to getting clocked is usually less than a second. There's also shooting the puck off of the heel or end of the stick as well, and that's controlled by the skill stick.

Thanks for the one-on-one advice WhiteTom, I never really knew what to do with those shifty players that could do the one handed dekes. It makes me sad though that I won't be able to DESTROY them with an open ice hit.

Please oh please cover the slot when opposition is coming down. I know I shouldn't be rushing over to make an imitation tunnel of death, but its so fun. It really makes me appreciate what Robyn Regehr does and that he could light up people worse than his Hemsky or Downey hits.

^post above

To find out your career stats, it's under the performance tracker menu options of the main page. Other wise, if you go to online->EA Sports Online->My Club you can find out how you compare in to others in some of the major stats.

Also, if the xp points for online are anything like be a pro mode, don't expect points unless you're a major goal scorer. Expect to earn 1 point or so for every 20 games, if you're defensively responsible, and don't get blown out much.

Although remarkably, there is a goalie on Team HFBoards that has a 15.00 GAA and 0 Sv%.

Played my first game for Team CP Fata (or whatever we call ourselves). Came out on the wrong side of a 4-0 lesson in cherry picking. They always had someone on our blue line, and managed to get the puck to them often.

I got busted trying to shoot a loose puck infront of the net, resulting in a cross checking penality. Great to play people that you feel responsible to if you take a penality, or go offside (which I did repeatedly, and I appologize for.)

Great new feature tho, and here's hoping I get back on the right side of the W-L record.
