they don't have any fast guys (sub 10s) and when you don't I think you need to be borderline aggressive on your passes to get an edge, their passes were way too safe. yes I understand not wanting to drop the stick, but in the finals if you want top 3 with a group without blazing speed I think you need to push it through the zones

The one difference is that Michael Phelps has basically rocked his sport's world in 2 Olympics now. If Bolt can come back and do this in London, then I think we have something to talk about. Until then, I give the edge to Phelps.

obviously you can make all kinds of goodx4 cases for Phelps, but I believe you can for Bolt too

1. WR in the 100 (easily), in the marquee event of the olympics
2. WR in the 200, breaking a 12 year old record
3. WR in the 4x100 for a nation of 3 M people, taking down a 15 year old record set by a team from a nation of 300 M

each guy did the absolute best they could in their circumstance
Oh I totally agree, I never thought what Bolt did wasn't amazing. To me what he did was spectacular to watch, and I dont think what Phelps did was any more spectacular.

To me they were on par, something you rarley ever seen, maybe not even in a lifetime

Just dont agree with people who think that winning 8 golds is an easier thing

To drop the baton in the semifinals like the US and Brits did is inexcusable. But in the final Canada had to go for broke and take risks if they want to be on the podium. I agree with you that their passes were too safe.

That's her in the middle. Liukin is directly to her right. Luckily, Shawn Johnson is not depicted.

I feel really bad for Van Koeverden (sp?). I hope he just flies in the 500 tomorrow. He was so upset after his race this morning, definitely feel for him.

Canadians going for medals Tonight

Last day of the Olympics for Canadian athletes (except for the men's marathon, where we probably have someone who'll finish 58th). I'd love to see us get 20; in order for that to happen, we need van Koeverden and Premont to meet expectations, and then beyond that, I think Reed is the best shot to medal.

Reed - 800m
Russell - Javelin
van Koeverden in K500
Beauchesne-Sevigny / Russell - C500 pairs final
Premont - mountain bike
Orlando - gymnastics
Synchro swim team

Did anyone hear the interview on NBC with the female runner who dropped the baton in the 4x100 race?
The arrogance she was spewing made me even happier that they DQ'ed.

One thing that has surprised me is the lack of athletes being stripped for doping. Just one heptathlete and one shooter, as far as I've heard? Rogge had predicted something like 40 positive tests before the games. So why so few?

Are the doped up athletes all being caught before the games?
Are athletes cleaner overall?
Or are all the doped up athletes using difficult-to-trace forms of performance enhancing drugs?

I think it's a combination of 1 and 3.

It wasn't really arrogance. I'm glad they were DQ'd but they were easily the best team and highest ranked. If they hadn't dropped the baton, they win gold and were in position to do so. But i'm glad they didn't!

Remove the drops, and I don't think they were the easily the best team. The Jamaicans posted a faster time in the semis than anything the US posted all year, and the Russians missed the American season-best by only 6 100ths in the final. Still would have taken a near perfect race for the Americans.

At any given time, a well timed kick would be obstructed from view, and since you need 3 judges to agree that it is a score, it's obvious this is going to be a disaster.
In Taekwondo a hit needs to be a "focussed blow" to score, right? So you'd have it count as a "focussed blow" unless proven otherwise? Otherwise the refs would just override the electronic system now instead of not scoring the point, but there wouldn't be any more points awarded.

There has been more than 2 for sure. I think it is at least a half dozen now (can't name them though). Plus 4 or 5 horses were disqualified for doping (damn horses and their hippie drugs).
