No idea actually, I don't think I've read anything about it.

$35 Admin fee?? $35 profit fee maybe..

Jeez, they're making this really hard for me. I really want a smartphone, and an iPhone would meet all my needs. I would go get a 1st gen one but that'll cost me more than $199 anyway, so I might as well get the 3G one, but jeez..

HTC Touch Diamond on Telus? Man I hate Telus...

Are the data plans for Rogers the same if you get a Blackberry? Such as the data plan costs? If I were to get a Blackberry instead of an iPhone, it would mostly be for receiving/sending emails, rather than surfing the web. Or can I get cheaper data plans for Blackberry's?

Ok, so when it says personal email, is that any email? Or just a rogers.ca (or whatever it is) email address?

Default Thread Hijack

So at this point, it's probably safe to hijack this thread temporarily, and ask, who'll be picking up the phone this Friday?

Existing customer or new customer?

Data plan or no data plan?

Maximum amount willing to pay overall per month?

I'm picking one up, so are a few of my friends. I'm a new client.

I'm getting the $60 iPhone voice/data bundle + $11 for Call ID/Voicemail + $10 for My5 + $6.95 for the Robbers fee.

It's more than I've ever paid for my monthly mobile phone bill, but if you think about the quality of the product it makes it a bit easier to swallow.

Oh, and we're camping out.

I am an existing iPhone user. I was hoping to pick up a data plan, but at these prices/rates I am going to skip it and just keep going without a data plan. For the extra $30 a month it's just not worth it IMO.

Sure, but MSN is apparently not the only way to send an SMS via the internets.

It took me 10 seconds to find someone who's written code to automate SMS via email here, and it would take another 10 seconds to write a loop that would fire around say ... 100,000 times.

Of course then there's always the sms forms freely available through the Cellular provider - but that takes more work, so you would really have to hate the person.

For those of us that are not on an unlimited text plan, maybe it's time.

Yikes, make sure you folks don't take your iPhone on vacation:

"Standard roaming rate is billed at 5¢ per KB in both the United States and other countries. However, when you subscribe to any Data Service Plan you will benefit from a low data rate of only 1¢ per KB while roaming in the USA, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands"

Maybe my math is off, but at ~500 kb/page, it would cost someone roughly $625 to read this thread in Paris. However, this same thread would only cost you $125 to read in Montana - that's savings!

Also, having a device that can replace my iPod would be sweet. If I can achieve this with an iPhone, that's the top choice (due to WiFi capability), but if there is a device out there that offers nearly as many features, I want to know about it.

Just seems that no matter what I do in Canada, I'm going to be pushed into paying upwards of $55-$70 per month for decent service and features. And that's without a data plan.

And yes, OSX means an Apple computer. Sounds like the iPhone and the Blackberry are the two that offer the easiest syncing options. Windows Mobile sounds painful.
Actually, Blackberry syncing can be pretty painful too. All of the BB options are various shades of suck when using OS X.

you will love it until you get your first bill and realize you owe rogers $400 for overage charges.

Data overages? Why can't I just use the data counter...?

They are not allowing closed proprietary formats from Adobe and Microsoft and pushing open standards like SproutCore.

How is that protectionist? They created the phone and the SDK to develop apps.

Re Sim removal:

I don't think the phone will brick considering the phone comes with a sim removal tool and half the people will probably try it out when they open the box. It would be a nightmare for Rogers but maybe they can get some revenue out of it.

Just make sure that you remember that your 'free evenings' start at 9 pm. Make sure that 150 minutes is enough for you.

If you have an existing plan, it might be more economical for you - but that's for you to evaluate.

There's a link on that Personal Email which should explain it...

"Support for up to 10 Personal Email accounts (Rogers Yahoo!, Yahoo Mail!, Google gmail, MSN, Hotmail, AOL, or POP3/IMAP account through your Internet Service Provider)"

(with a few other clarifications, caveats, etc.)

I'm debating on it. I'll probably drop by one of the stores on Saturday and experiment with a demo (assuming they have this ability). I've never typed on the touch screen keypad and want to try it out.

I'm an existing Rogers customer, and there's no way I'm even touching the custom Iphone plans they have. I would be using my current plan (total of $35-ish per month) and possibly adding data, although I wish it was $30 for 1 gig. Rogers could have had me almost automatically doubling my monthly spend... and they screwed it up royally.
