It's thing like this that'll make it easier for me to leave this province at the end of the summer. B.C. has it's share of problems but at least the fundies aren't running the show over there.

That hasn't been my experience there but I have only spent limited time in Vancouver and Victoria.

In Nova Scotia no open alcohol in the car, period. Doesn't matter if it's a passanger sitting in the back seats of a van, no open alcohol. They only recently made it legal to transport open boxed alcohol in the cabin of the car (ie: you have 6 loose bottles with you, or 7 cans of an 8 pack, etc)

It's the same thing here. Does anyone know why it is this way? It doesn't make much sense. What harm does a guy drinking a beer in the backseat do?

I think its for the sake of busting the driver. If the driver is sipping on a beer and sees the cops, he can make the hand-off and plead innocence.

As far as I know last call is a fairly arbitrary thing. It usually happens between 1am and 2am. They are legislating how much you can get at 1am but AFAIK there is no legislation on last call specifically, unless I read the article wrong.

That's exactly it, and understandable. The theory of not having even a sealed case of beer in the back seat was it was within reach of the driver.

Last call is generally the bartender(s) saying "alright I'm about to get ready to close up, so if you want a drink come get it now"

Totally agree. I spent a year in Italy and I was hard pressed to find italian youth that were idiot drunk. Tourists, yes, but not locals. You can walk down the street drinking in full view and it was not illegal. Minimum age was (I think) 18, but it was not enforced at all. And that's not to say that the pubs were full of kids, I'm just saying that it wasn't all that unusual to see a couple out for drinks on a patio with their kid in tow. And if that kid asked for a sip of daddy's drink, pops would give him one and laugh at the grimace on the kid's face afterward.
Sometimes I'd see high school kids in a piazza sharing a beer and they just treated it like it was a bottle of pop. Nobody guzzling it or trying to get hammered... For better or worse, they'd just share a beer as a form of refreshment.

It really illustrated to me that when something is not taboo, young people aren't as inclined to want to do it or abuse it. It's an after thought when you can do it if you want to.

I'm pretty sure that alcohol cannot be sold in Alberta between 2AM and 10AM and on xmas day. So it looks like they shaved an hour off "last call".

We have some the most liberal laws when it comes to liquor practices in Canada. I'm not a college kid anymore, so I didn't even know that you could buy cheap liquor at the bars anymore. I remember Electric Ave. though. Crazy happy hour days back then. They would have insane prices and hand out insane deals for cheap draft kegs. I don't even want to know what I was drinking back then. So, I guess I can understand some of the logic behind it. Electric Ave. was a mess and it was mostly because of the high levels of testosterone, younger adults and drunkenness.

The Alero manual says as long as you slam 5, and no more than 5, and dispose of the cups it's totally legit.
