he he... ya Eastern Girl, Christian Bale is the man. He's one of the few actors that I'll watch in anything, and without knowing anything about the film. And, as a straight man, I feel ok giving praise to his abs in 'American Psycho'... he was that cut.

Have any of you seen 'Velvet Goldmine'? It's one of my favourite films by the also criminally under-rated director Todd Haynes.

The Gotham Knight looks awesome. I think I will enjoy that more than the movies, from what I have read and listened to it seems they stick more to the real Batman character than the feature films did. With a smaller budget you can afford to lose some of the "bandwagon" hollywood fans and stick to your guns for the hard cores. Less ninja more detective! Batman is the second smartest man in the world, use that!

I wouldn't mind seeing an appearance of Dick either.

Don't get excited Locke, Dick Grayson, the original Robin

Sorry Fatso, but straight men don't say things like "criminally under-rated".

I am the Anti-Batman but will watch this on DVD just to see Heath Ledger because I haven't missed one of his movies. By the looks of the trailer though, I may even like the movie itself! I think he will be awesome. Jack was more 'clownish', but still entertaining. I took my son to every movie when he was a kid. I might even take him to this one.

Yeah, you never have to ask me if I have seen a Christian Bale film. The answer is always 'yes.' I've seen Velvet Goldmine. I am a huge, HUGE fan of his. I think that movie is getting recognition in a sort of cult-ish way. I know lots of people that really like it. My favourite Bale movie is All the Little Animals, no one really knows about it, but he was really great in it, playing a mentally disabled young man. The movie is a little odd and the premise sounds kinda, sorta out there, but like I said, he's fantastic in it.

And we can't speak of a cut Christian Bale without also mentioning Reign of Fire. Regardless of what you think of the film, he looked awesome. Within the first ten or so minutes of the movie, you are treated to a nice sweaty topless Bale. I knew it would be worth it to see that movie in the theater when it first came out.

I loooove Christian Bale, but have yet to watch EVERY movie he's been in.

Thanks to fatso and EG, I've now downloaded Velvet Goldmine (and am downloading Reign of Fire).

I refuse to watch the Machinist, however. Have you two seen that as well?

Why wouldn't you watch the Machinist? He's great in that movie.

His appearance bothers me. Starving himself for that movie and then bulking up right after for Batman Begins couldn't have been good for him.

Actually Machiavelli, I haven't seen 'The Machinist'. I'm not sure why... I've heard great things about it. I'll be sure to check it out.

I know I've seen 'Reign of Fire' and I can remember the basic plot of it but not much else.

Also, someone else mentioned 'Equilibrium' earlier in the thread... good film, and worth checking out. And if anyone still hasn't seen 'The Prestige', rent it immediately! Great great film.

Yep, that and "The Illusionist," both movies about magic that were released at about the same time, and are both very good.

Not really a spoiler, but I'll white it out anyway:

I think The Illusionist was a bit "cleaner" of a movie, but not as exciting for me and I figured out the twist, while I did not in the Prestige.

I wasn't all that big on the Prestige. I loved Bale, but I was kind of 'meh' with that one, but I definitely liked Equilibrium. Great action sequences in that one. That one was definitely under the radar.

Surprised to hear that. I think 'The Prestige' could be Nolan's best film yet. I thought Hugh Jackman was really outstanding... his broadway training really came through and he stole the show imo. Conversely, I thought 'The Illusionist' was pretty poor. There were some interesting things in it, and Edward Norton is a very good actor, but it didn't work for me. The ending was really predictable I thought, and Jessica Biel, while hot, has the acting range of wallpaper.

Oh snap, don't forget Bale's best work yet... as the villain in 'Shaft'.

For me, Bale's best was in 3:10 to Yuma.

Plus that movie delivered a line I found hilarious: "Even a bad man love his mama."

Anyhoo, I think I might have hijacked this thread.

With The Prestige and The Illusionist, it wasn't the acting that soured me on those films, I think they were well acted (though I agree about Beil, think she is hot all you want, but horrible, horrible 'actress') I figured them out fairly quickly, so I wasn't hugely into them. (And while I am way off topic, Toni Collette was good in that movie. She's 'criminally underrated.')

The villain in Shaft, he was good. You really did hate him, or at least I wanted to and would have if I weren't incapable of hating Christian Bale. That line, "Homeboys got rhythm," pretty evil. He was a bugger. The movie itself though... ugh. Also, I don't like Samuel L. Jackson.

Blasphemy! How can you possibly say this about the iconic actor who has brought us such masterpieces as:

Coming to America
Exorcist 3
The Meteor Man
The Phantom Menace
XXX
Snakes on a Plane

...yeah, I don't like him either. Only good role he ever lived up to IMO was Carl Lee Hayley from A Time to Kill.

Michael Caine is another big time movie actor who's been in a lot of bad movies. Have you seen Jaws 4. Makes Snakes on a plane look like academy award winning stuff. I tend to view the quality of an actor by their ability to rise to the caliber of acting that role needs (Ledger as the Joker for one)
