Boldin wants out of AZ. Apparently he is unhappy Fitzgerald is making more money than him.

I don't know about that. They could easily go DT or OT at #5 and then DE at #17. Should still be some quality DEs available in the middle of the first (i.e. Harvey and Merling).

nm. Slow on the draw.

Interesting move by the Chiefs. I like this for Minnesota personally. Gave up their 1st overall pick and 2 3rd's but there is no guarantee those 2 3rds would pan out. Allen is only 26 and had a huge year last year.

The Chiefs need to fill spots in all positions, hopefully they can accomplish that with some good drafting this year.

Or they could try to move up.

Was listening to "Between the Lines with Kevan Kietzman" on the way home today. They interviewed Allen's agent and this was clearly about Carl Peterson. The man listed every person in the Chiefs front office and coaching staff when speaking of Jared's love for them...and his own admiration for them as an agent who deals with NFL organizations for a living. The guys started laughing and asked about Carl and the agent went through the names again.

Also, KC never made Jared an offer.

I know that he was never given an offer. Gunther Cunningham made it know to the media that the Chiefs number 1 priority should be to sign Jared Allen to a long term contract. I guess Carl could care less what Gun thinks.

So are the Chiefs putting themselves in a position to draft #1 overall next season? If they take Matt Ryan I think my head will explode. Give Croyle another year, its not like Ryan will do much better, then when the Chiefs get the number 1 pick next year they can select a franchise QB. If they still feel that Croyle is a bust.

Dallas is ballsy....a low risk, high reward deal though if he stays on the straight and narrow.

Agreed, if theres no great franchise QB to be had in this draft...wait it out for next year, because at most I can see the Chiefs winning 2 games this coming year.

I read an article on Jerry Jones in SI last year, it was a pretty interesting read. In it, Jones says himself that the reason he goes after potential problem players like T.O.(and now Pac-Man) is because when Dallas was a dynasty in the early-mid '90's, they were full of big talent, big ego, big attitude, potential problem-type players. He feels that extra swagger is what gives teams that championship quality and translates into winning, using these early-90's Cowboys teams as the precedent. This probably explains the Pac-Man move.

Chief fans - what are your thoughts on Larry Johnson sticking around? Im unfamiliar with his contract situation. Are you guys concerned at all that he might be a distraction this season if the team performs poorly? I thought I remembered him being somewhat of a head case even when the team was decent.

In a salary cap world it's also brilliant if you can make it work because after prior off-field screwups these players can only demand a shadow of their former earning potential. Dallas also employs the NFL's largest team of specialists to help out troubled players too. In the end if someone like TO can actually think about people other than himself and befriend his QB, Tank Johnson can buy less guns, and Pac-man Jones buy less hookers and blow it works out better for the players too.

But I think you need the right coach to be able to handle those types of players. I recall a Michael Irvin interview where he said he was scared to step out of line while Jimmy Johnson was the coach, and that is what kept him and the other "problem" players on the team focused.

You can kind of see this with Randy Moss - all the talent in the world, trouble maker and more disruption than he is worth on 2 franchises, but under Belichek (and a strong set of teammates) he seems to be a model player.

So it seems like a sound strategy if you have the right structure to be able to handle these types of players.

Do the Cowboys have that on this team?

I hope not - I hate that franchise.

I disagree, this took no guts whatsoever. If he doesn't play they get a 4t hback, in fact probably a better 4th than they just gave up. Good move for Dallas.

So with the Flames season officially over, my attention is now 100% focused on the NFL Draft. Who are you guys hoping your teams grab in the first round?(and be realistic. ie if your team's drafting 20th, don't say "Glenn Dorsey"). I know we did this over a month ago, but things have changed so much since then.

For the Saints, my top 3 would be:
1. Sedrick Ellis (DT, USC)
2. Keith Rivers (OLB, USC)
3. Leodis McKelvin (CB, Troy)

(I would've placed Dorsey at #1, but even through trying to make a trade, I think the Saints have no chance at grabbing him. Nor should they, for what it would cost to move up that high)

For the Eagles, my top 5 looks like this:

1. S Kenny Phillips (Miami)
2. DE Derrick Harvey (Florida)
3. G/T Branden Albert (Virginia)
4. WR James Hardy (Indiana)
5. WR Devin Thomas (Michigan State)

If it's either of the last two then I'd like to see them trade down a few spots.

For the Vikings I'd like to see us draft....oh wait, we only have a 2nd round pick this year. And I'd really like them to just draft BPA at that point.

As for those Eagles picks, I can see Phillips being there for them, but I think Harvey goes in the top 15, I think Devin Thomas is being heavily pursued by Buffalo and Branden Albert has seen his draft stock skyrocket and looks like he will be a top 20 pick.

For Detroit:

1. Ryan Clady OT
2. Jeff Otah OT
3. Aqib Talib CB
4. Leodis McKelvin CB
5. Derrick Harvey DE

It looks like everyone has us picking Mandenhall which isn't too bad. I just think you can get a good RB in the second or third round if need be and that this team has bigger issues on the OL/DL/CB.

I am not all that keen on Harvey even though we need a pass rusher. Seems like a guy that is getting too much hype based on workouts than play.
