2008 NFL Off season thread.
I know four teams are left. But for the majority of us. Our teams are in off season mode.
Latest news.
Chiefs hire Chan Gailey as Offensive Co-ordinator.

Well, with my 49ers, everyone knows the hired Martz a the new OC. They also made teh VP of Player Personnel, Scot McCloughan, the GM with final say in all player decisions (something that coach Nolan had control of) and also gave him the ability to hire or fire the Head Coach (Nolan). So it looks like the coach has been put on notice.
I still think that the worst thing to happen to this franchise was when Denise DeBartolo-York won control of the team from Eddie DeBartolo.
Oh, and Santa Clara has commissioned a stadium study.

I think they have given up on a new stadium on the same location as the 'Stick. The can swing funding for the stadium, but all the traffic re-alignment upgrades and overall infrastructure upgrades that would be forced to go along with it has pretty much put Candlestick Point out of the running. Required additional infrastructure costs would add almost 60% to the total cost (so far as 49er media releases go).
But nothing is a done deal yet.
This is a case where I wish Eddie DeBartolo was still involved. John York is an infamous penny pincher (which is a reason players stopped naming the 49ers as a desired team - York actually charged players postage if they mailed letters from team offices). So everything I read about the stadium I take with a grain of salt - John York will do anything to get something for nothing.

Have you ever been to that stadium? If memory serves there is only one road to get in and out of that place. Very limited parking as well.

No. I've been to SF once, but that was in May ('92 - saw the Jays beat the A's 5-1). But I mean to make it before they close it out. I guess that puts me on a deadline.

I have the same idea with Yankee Stadium. That really puts me on a deadline.

I was there, back in August '02. I've been to about four or five NFL games down South, but Yankee Stadium was by far the best, and I'm not even really a baseball fan. Just so awesome to be there. You could just feel the history in the building, I'd imagine it's what it wouldve felt like to be at the Montreal Forum. The crowd makes it great too. A couple guys started doing the wave so we joined in. Just then, someone behind us - in a very thick Brooklyn accent - told us to stop doing it because "that s*** is Shea"(as in Shea Stadium, where the Mets play). To this day I still quote that, awesome!
We all had a great time, and the place exploded when Bernie Williams hit a gorgeous shot to deep centrefield to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth. I didnt know a baseball crowd could get that loud, it felt like the stadium shook.

Broncos have let defensive coordinator Jim Bates go. They offered him the LB coach position which he turned down. Seemed like an amicable seperation though. Bob Slowik will take over.
LT Matt Lepsis retired
John Lynch is pondering.
Rod Smith had surgery...not hip replacement so I'm guessing he's still hoping to come back.
Javon Walker has backed off of his statements about leaving Denver. Shanahan said he's not worried about it and will talk to him in a few weeks.

I used to be a huge baseball fan. Havn't really watched since the strike, which is starting to be a long time. Would love to see The House that Ruth built. If you think of the great players that have played on that field. Not only the famous Yankees such as Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle but also the numerous oposition players that are legends as well such as Ty Cobb, Ted Williams, ect. ect. Just amazing.

Things are not looking good. Herm wanted a guy who was like minded with a huge emphasis on running the ball. Maybe he will be the right guy for a rebuilding offensive line with a young quarterback.

Personally I think the Cowboys should be looking for a running back. They have two decent guys but what Aikman and Staubach had in their favor was a great running back to go with their other weapons.
That and keep upgrading the offensive line.

What if they just committed to one instead of "liking the different skill set each brings to the table"?

I've heard Jerry Jones is pretty high on Darren McFadden, I wonder if he'd be willing to make a move on draft day?

I'm sure Parcells would be willing to give up the first overall pick as he's got too many holes to fill.
That being said why the heck would dallas need mcfadden, when they got two good running backs.

Because neither has breakaway speed. Barber gets you some tough yards. Jones is a steady back but neither is remotely close to Smith or Dorsett.
