Support for Displaced argument can easily come from a fellow AFC West opponent - my Raiders. After the 2002 Superbowl and especially after Gannon got hurt, Skeletor refused to tear down and start fresh. Instead he bled out veterans that still had a little left in the tank (Brown, Woodson(s), etc...) and tried to plug holes with rookies/UFAs (Sapp, Gallery, Jordan). The result: a polluted locker room (Callahan's second year and Shell's year) and one of the worst records in the NFL in the past 6 seasons.

Bengals turn down huge trade offer from Redskins for Chad Johnson. The deal would've given Cincy the Skins 1st round pick this year(21st over-all), and a conditional 3rd rounder in '09 that could escalate to a 1st rounder if he hit certain performance levels.
Like I know Cincy is trying to show that they will not cater to Ocho's demands, and that's all well and good. But how do you turn down that offer?? IMO the Bengals made a mistake here.

Because they'd still have to deal with an $8 million cap hit.

You arrogant #$@&*. It seemed to be a no brainer for the fins. If your going to have to shell out $30,000,000 in guaranteed money. Odds are that an OL has less risk of being a bust than any other position.

Word around these parts is he won't play for them again anyway.

It will be dumb if they try to replace him with the 5th pick. Then your shelling out $20,000,000 guaranteed to a player that has yet to prove himself and probably will never reach the potential of a Jared Allen.
Word is he will play if he is given a long term contract. Carl will get canned sometime in the next 12 months anyway. Clark will not sit back and watch his profits erode with a half full Arrowhead Stadium Sunday after Sunday.

Unless youre the Raiders and your drafting "the safest pick in the draft" whose name is Gallery.
Where do the Skins go now? OL, trade down?

I'm loving how Lewis is dealing with this. I have been a Bengals fan for years now, the really tough ones included, so maybe it's just because I am used to losing all the time, but I am almost ready to say let the little weiner sit out the rest of his damn contract rather than trade him. Not necessarily because I hate Chad, in fact I have liked him, but these crybaby atheletes are just getting annoying, and sometimes it falls on one team to sacrifice for the good of many (in all pro sports, not just NFL).
The way I look at it, what's another year of missing the playoffs if you can show these whiney punks that they arent running the show. If you dont want to play there so long, dont sign the contract. Hell, I'd even pick up his 2011 option just to piss him off a little more.
Lets be honest, Cinci isnt gonna make any noise this year with or without Chad anyway. I dont care if we lose games 38-35 or 38-21, a loss is a loss, and without any defense it doesnt matter if Chad is out there or not, this isnt a playoff team.
Now, all that being said, if I lived in Cinci and was a season ticket holder I might change my tune...luckily Im not, so I can go with this attitude.
If they make him sit, all I would hope is that other teams grow some nuts and follow suit when some ###### tries to pull this with them...otherwise it's all a waste of time.

Hard for me to determine. I think there was talk about trading down if Jake Long was not available. Allthough Carl Peterson made it sound like no teams were willing to trade up. Yet ESPN is reporting that some teams are interested in moving up to get one of the DL's that could be available with the 5th pick or McFaddden. I think it also depends on if they trade Jared Allen or not. I will be pissed if they trade him and then draft a DL with the fifth pick. Biggest needs are OT, OG, WR, and CB.

The Chiefs had to do this.
They should try to unload the idiotic LJ contract too, but I doubt they could get fair value back for him.
Good first step into building a young team that in a couple of seasons could be a huge free agency player.
Many Chiefs fans I talk to (I'm surrounded by them) have told me their biggest failure is never committing to a rebuild. Finally, they are.

Well the Chiefs do need a rebuild, in a bad, bad way. But man what a terrible night....Flames doused, Chiefs guarantee themselves an 0-16 season.....Frick..I need to get a new escape from reality and give up on watching sports I think.

Thats true. Peterson has always had the attitude of winning now. Since he has been at the helm they have always just plugged in a veteran QB, instead of trying to develop a young, franchise QB. Almost every year the Chiefs are always in the hunt for a playoff spot. So it gives the illusion that the team is just on the brink of getting to and winning the Super Bowl. Keeps the Stadium full and the cash registers ringing. The mistake Peterson made was letting this team get to old, trying to cling to the notion that this could be the year. It has back fired and now the team has major holes at almost every position.
The thing I don't like about the Jared Allen trade is that they will probably pick a DE with the 5th pick. You trade away a proven star in his prime. Then replace him with an unproven player who you still have to give a huge signing bonus to. The problem with the unproven player is that there is a 50/50 chance he could be a bust.
