That's the funny thing about musical opinion. Everybody's different. So much so that some people define their musical tastes upon being different. The funny thing is though that even when people are trying to be different they are still very much the same. Tell me if you've heard this before from a music-snob:
I hate (Insert multiple popular band's/group's here). They have widespread appeal and tend to sometimes make generic songs, and I'm anything but maintream or generic and it offends me that some record company exec would pigeon-hole me and foist this music upon me at every turn (Capitalism's a B#^*h). If only (Insert home town/city here) would have a radio station that appeals to me and plays music like (insert less mainstream band/group here). Afterall I bet there's enough people who like (Insert previous band name here) to make a go of that format in (Insert city/town name here). However if (insert previous band name here)'s music ends up on those 'other stations' around town they must die for selling out and all their music either has to be burned or defined as "Pre-(whatever album got popular)"- GOOD or "Post-(Whatever album got popular)" - BAD.

yeah, but when you're 15, you expect to at least be able to tell what the song is that they're playing.
A band with very little musical talent who managed use their stage show and brilliant marketing to make millions.

Yes, it doesn't hurt to have a very large brain and a very large tongue to go with it. Gene Simmons is no dummy. Very smart guy who saw a market niche and milked it for all it was worth. Good on him, but yeah..the music is average at best. I do like to hear a song or two now and then.

I'm gonna say Garth Brooks. I can't even listen to him. If he comes on the radio, it's an instant station change.

I mean really new music, not the new album from Metallica, challenging yourself to listen to stuff you believed was crap, like rap or country or dance or electronica. I know I don't have it in me (time or effort) to try to like that stuff but I am pretty sure its not because the music sucks, its because I suck.
I started to like Radiohead in my early twenties, in University and now it is nostalgic to myself just like Fully Completely is to some people. Radiohead is definately not new, hip or cool to me so thats why it is a bit insulting when some say that people listen to it to be hip and cool.
I hate when anyone looks down on anyone for liking or disliking any music, yes, including Britney or Nickleback. Doing so indicates close-mindedness on that person's part.
I think Stewie said it best when talking about his myspace page. You can see'em on my MySpace page. Along with my favorite songs and movies and things that other people have created but that I use to express my individualism. Liking something created by someone else increases your personal contribution to society by JACK-SQUAT, so bragging about a favorite something is ridiculous.
Listening to music is like masturbating, it is something done to pleasure our self and no one else, but for some reason it isn't cool to put your masturbation collection of crusty kleenexes on display in your living room like some sort of look how cool I am trophy.

Your absolutely right. Mea Culpa. I shouldn't get onto Forums late at night when I'm completely in the pail. As they say, opinions are just like a%^holes, everyone has one.

The Pixies is a band that I either love or hate. No in between.
But some people love them outright and its something I can't understand.

...the most overrated band of all time:
Pink Floyd...seriously the only people that like Pink Floyd are people that are stoned, or people that get stoner nostalgia from all the times they've been stoned and listening to Pink Floyd...seriously. I'm not necessarily saying there's anything wrong with being a stoner, but if being a stoner causes people to like Pink Floyd (which it seems to), that's when it becomes a problem.
...and to the people that listed Pearl Jam, Van Halen, and AC/DC (especially to those that listed Pearl Jam)...F...U

Once I got past the lo-fi aspect of The Aeroplane Flies Over the Sea I was blown away by the depth of the lyrics for that album. It's entirely about Anne Frank.
The vocals are annoying at first but then it grew on me and it's one of my favourite albums. I can understand how others would hate it though.

A lot of people I know rave about this album..I think its garbage.
The funny thing is, these days, when some indie album gets super hyped up by people with skinny jeans, thick glasses and shaggy haircuts...and more often then not its mediocre...it doesn't even keep mediocre status to me, I just start to flat out think its the most vile crap ever created.

Guns 'n Roses. I cannot handle Guns 'n Roses, maybe I'll change my mind when a Chinese Democracy comes out. I hear that's happening any day now...
