Not to derail this thread, but... GWB is as phony as a three dollar bill. I challenge you to name one "genuine" thing about him. The whole "don't mess with Texas" act? His family are New England aristocrats, from Connecticut. He himself was raised in New England, and still has a summer home in Maine. When he first ran for office in Texas, he lost because his constituents didn't want to vote for some carpetbagger from New England--no kidding. The whole "rancher" thing? His "ranch" in Crawford is basically a set, designed for photo-ops to make him seem like he fits into a state whose culture he has adopted in his adult life. Compassionate conservative? Nope. Not a "nation-builder?" Yikes. "Clean Air Act"? "No Child Left Behind"? It gets worse and worse.

So here's a list of things he's NOT, that at one time or another he has pretended to be: A Texan. An everyday joe. A working stiff. A rancher. A businessman. A fiscal conservative. A reformer. Bipartisan.

Can you give me one thing that he IS? Because it sounds like you just have this "feeling" about him that he's genuine. Trust me--most politicians re-invent themselves at one time or another. But Bush is basically a chameleon.

(/rant. We now return to your regularly scheduled thread.)

Its actually amazing that the US still includes pork in their budget...and refuses to properly balance the budget.

Its like 8 trillion in debt isn't a big deal, really.

I hate George Bush, I think he is the worst thing to happen to our world in a LONG time and we will be paying for a long time for his tenure. I think he is an idiot and a buffoon.

HOWEVER, I think he is an agreeable guy and believe he is a good guy. Why? Because a buddy of mine is married to a former governer's daughter and she has met George a bunch of times and says he is a good guy. I respect her opinion, so will believe it.

... doesn't mean I have to like him in his job though ...

Most politicians are very likable people when you meet them. I've met several (American and Canadian) and they're all your best buddy while you're talking to them. It's part of the job.

This is going to be a very interesting election. There is no way the Republicans should win considering the mess they've made but when it comes down to casting that ballot, how many Americans are going to vote for a woman or a black. I hope they do but it is worrisome.

I hope they don't.

The last thing the US needs in office is Hillary.

If Kerry was a bad candidate....Hillary is VERY bad.

That's a nice blanket statement. I've often wondered why the hatred for Hillary or Bill for that matter. Have you got something to back it up or is it only emotional.

I'd rather not say it here.

Probably get banned.

I never said I had hatred for Bill, though I think he should shutup already. Hillary is an overbearing politician that will do anything to get into power.

The same stands for any successful politician. It's a very dirty game and some just hide it better than others.
Me, I'd rather see honest greed for power than than some phony baloney, aw-shucks song and dance.

Well, politician or not....simply having Hillary in office isn't going to suddenly put the US back on the right track.

Change has to implemented by someone who is willing to 'change' status quo.

Hillary is all about status quo....probably more so than someone like McCain or Huckabee.

We should have election thread stickied....doesn't make sense to start a new thread for every single different article.

But I wanted to mention that McCain's son is now serving in Iraq...

I have no research for this, and am only going off an article that I read a while back (sorry no link), but to summarize what this article stated was that the world was not ready for a female president.
Of course (most of) the western world would support a female, but in many countries women are still second rate citizens. Would they take a female in power seriously?
and....discuss
