Actually it does exist, it has been happening, it continues to happen. Canada is not the first country for this to happen to.

Isn't it? Is she not trying to impose her religion on the company she works for by expecting that exceptions be made to company policies to comply with her religous beliefs? That sounds like imposing religion to me. Far more so than any mall Christmas tree I've ever seen.

What do you want? A scan of some company memo? Talk to any number of people who work in a retail environment and I promise you you'll find some who are told to say only Happy Holidays and not Merry Christmas.

which she should have brought up 5 years ago but instead she decided to take the job and wear the uniform she was required to wear. It doesn't help her cause bringing this up after not mentioning it for 5 years

Well then, maybe she should sue them for harassment too

I bet this lawsuit wasn't even her idea, her friend just got a new husband with a law degree and needs to make a name for himself. He heard her quitely say something at a gathering and said you know, here is my business card....

Equally funny that some avowed Christians want to see secularism when it helps surpress other religious traditions.
When atheists say they (we) want things to be secular, the general intent is that it should be belief system neutral, not that it should work against the practices and beliefs of others. Many atheists tend to be very respectful of an individual`s right to the code of conduct that their belief system requires. A longer skirt is one of those things where many atheists will look at it, feel that it doesn't surpress anyone's belief and doesn't favour one belief over another. It is belief-system neutral. Of course, not all atheists share that view, but a good many of those that I know do.

What has happened to you personally on this slippery slope?

Anyone got any good stories?

Something like "I wasn't allowed to celebrate Christmas because of political correctness" or "I was forced to sit in a mosque because of immigrants" or "I had to take down my Christmas lights because they offended my neighbour" or "my children couldn't celebrate Easter because an Easter Egg Hunt in my backyard is illegal" or "my wife was ordered to cover her face at work so as not to upset a religious man who works there".

Having some kid at the Gap say "Happy Holidays" or dealing with a guy who can't speak English at Tim Horton's doesn't count.

Okay...And?

Still doesn't mean the firm isn't trying to gain some attention from all this

All I have to say is this:

Suck it up, princess!

PS - Uniformed women in short skirts? This thread is useless without pics.

Her lawyer is a female (not a husband). Your statement is false. I win. As payment, you can cover my CP membership fees for one year.

To all the people who say people should be required to have a certain level of english proficiency to live in Canada, imagine yourself moving to China and see if you can learn Chinese as quickly.

No one is saying that if you move to China you should know Chinese. However, if you work as a cashier in McDonald's somewhere in China then yes, you damn well better know the language.

Damn well better know it or what?

People who are fluently bilingual usually don't move to another country to work at a fast-food restaurant or a coffee shop.

I think you may have missed my point. What I'm suggesting is that if a person moves to a foreign country and will be working with the general public in that country, it would be wise of them to know the foreign tongue.

Nicely put.
It's kind of funny you say that, but want Christmas Pageants in school and to tell everyone Merry Christmas kind of contradictory. I guess as long as its Christian beliefs being extolled its ok...
