You could try Twisted Element, there are lots of great guys there to meet.

You might not get a relationship but you'd at least find someone to go shopping with or a good wingman...

Interesting theory about hitting on chicks in a bookstore. You'd have to be careful to approach your ususpecting prey when they're looking at paperbacks or magazines.

You toss out a "hey babe, whats goin on?" in the encyclopedia section and somebody's gettin hurt!

Is this a girl asking, or a gay dude? My first impression was that it's a gay guy looking to find a another guy.

Firefly is a girl. I can't guarantee anything about the others though.

So I'm coming to CP for advice since there's lots of men here... where would be a good bar or pub to meet a man? I like to do stuff while out drinking and think that playing pool is a helpful tool in breaking the ice... I'm not really one to just sit there and get drunk. I'd prefer to do stuff while getting drunk. In addition, I'm not into clubs. I'm 26 and wear way too many clothes to be going to clubs.

So where do all the good men drink?
this thread is no good without a picture of you....p.s. the last place you want to get advice from is guys trolling cp blog room on saturday night...my advice..just let it happen.....lots of single guys in this city..bars and pubs are no fun to meet people unless you go with a group of friends...and if you happen to meet someone...great..if not..just have fun with your friends..best place to meet someone you'll like for longer relationships...a) work b) hobbies ....

How the hell do you pick someone up in a grocery or a book store? Like seriously, what do you say: "So, you buy dairy products often?"

I assume at a bookstore you'd say "blah blah blah, thats a good book," but then again you'd have to know something about said book and there isn't too many chicks in the fantasy/horror section of the bookstore. Sounds pretty situational.

Dunno about a grocery store though.

Well clearly I am perfect then. I guarantee you I am more shy than you are, and am not remotely close to being "hot". No danger at all.

Ask for her assistance in picking out fresh tomatoes or something. Tell her you're trying something new and you don't know what to look for in a squash... or whatever it is you're looking for.

That said, don't be rolling up to her with a bunch of junk food and frozen dinners in your cart, that just looks bad.

Although this wouldnt help FF, to the male posters in this thread who claim to be shy, or are looking for good places or times to pickup women - check this site out:

http://www.sosuave.com/

A lot of the stuff on there is cheesy, a lot of it is also over the top - but there is a ton of pure GOLD on there. The Quick Tips section has provided me with plethora of good info, havent checked out the entire site though.

Take a con-ed course. Something like exotic cooking (Thai or another culture). Or another course you might be interested in. Good way to meet someone who has a common interest. Photography would be another one. Something that's not too "girly".

FireFly, why don't you try picking someone up at a bookstore?

Most of the time there is a coffee bar in the store or nearby, so it isn't exactly like it would be a high pressure situation to go grab a cup and talk for a bit.

One recommendation I would make is to go about your normal life, but be open to flirting and being approached when you're out and about. The bookstore is a perfect example of a place where you can be doing something that actually interests you, and still have the chance to run into someone you are attracted to. If you can flirt in these "normal" situations, you have a better chance of meeting a "nice" guy, instead of a vision of what you think you should be looking for at a place like a bar.

Never underestimate the power of eye contact and a smile with men. Most of the time, you don't need to be any more bold than this to get a man's attention. Feel it out from there to see if you need to approach or if he is going to approach you. Obviously, not everyone is the same, and you have to be able to go with the flow in order to see how well you actually will work together.

And I would echo the comments of everyone on the board and say that a bar is a terrible place to find love. I have only one friend who has ever found a decent, long-term relationship at a bar. Seriously, go there to hang out with friends, drink or get laid, but you're not going to find a good man at the bar. The mentality of a man while at the bar almost guarantees this.

I was fortunate enough to meet my wife when I was at University, and to have the guts to realize that I should commit to her instead of being hung up by this BS idea of "being free" and chasing tail all over hell's half acre.

It's weird, but now we both have the problem of meeting and retaining quality friends - both "couple" friends, and individual friends. This is almost as hard as dating, and the worst part is that there is no awkward sex to make up for the trouble!

Does that include kraft dinner and red wine?

What wine does go with KD anyways?

Honestly, I've never ever had a woman hit on me. (might have something to do with the fact that I have the look of a multiple mass murderer)

Book stores are good places to go, friends who invite you to work parties usually have the quota of single friends because nothing gets married people off more then setting up single friends. Sporting events, its amazing the conversation you can have when your sitting next to a person of the opposite sex. I met the previous girlfriend at the gym.

I've never used a line, or tried to pick someone up, but I've had great conversations that lead somewhere.

I understand the whole nervous thing when making the first move, guys go through this a thousand times, and you never get used to it. Just be open and honest with yourself, go up and say hello, no lines, or cheesy crappy openings, treat it like your asking for directions and just plunge into it despite your misgivings and your stupid self conscious self playing trips with your confidence.

Pastel Passion, or anything else from the "sugar and water added" school of winemaking.
