So? Your point is what? That not only does Calgary get international visitors because of its Olympic venues, cultural venues, beautiful sceneries, but also because of its proximity to some of the best ski hills and mountain towns in the world?
I can live with that. I'll hang my head in shame while I visit these venues, while you go shopping for the latest in BOCA/FCUK wear.

Guiness Book of World Record does not make lies.
20 million is a very likely accurate number.
My point is proven though - you're just another typical Calgarian who'll never give credit where it's due.

Remind me never to trust Guiness. Or your next claim. You're off by more than 50% there Sundeep... 9,803,626...

There are plenty of attractions that international tourists see in Edmonton, besides that mall.

Two different sources....who knows which one is right?
Point still stands. Nothing in Calgary near the same level.

Yup, that's why Edmonton is the festival Capital of Canada.
Fringe Festival, Heritage Days, Klondike Days, Muttart Conservatory, Fort Edmonton Park, Provincial Museum, West Edmonton Mall, International Film Festival, International Food Festival, and about another 30 tourist attractions as provided on the list.
I hope your parents have money son, cuz you're getting no where in life.

Are you trying to say that the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation (a sub of the City of Edmonton) is less reliable than Guiness, who probably had some copywriter pull that 20 million figure from some tourist brochure?

Again with the insults, do you always get this mad when you lose arguments? I guess, if you can't insult with wit you could turn to something read off a website somewhere.
Most, if not all of your "Festivals" have equivalents in Calgary. Besides which, "Festival Capital" is self proclaimed, and about as menaingful as your "City of Champions" logo from the 80's. They mean about as much to me or you as "Gretest Outdoor Show on Earth".

Well, this has been fun. However the REAL moderator (the one who lives in my house) wants me off the computer. That and our meeting just adjourned, and I want to hurl insults at my TV.

no way man. the Stampede really is the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth
but seriously, knew exactly what you meant...but taking a perceived shot at the City of Champions logo brings out the worst in Edmonton types, from my experiences... (we're going to see mention of 5 Stanley Cups and 12 Grey Cups mentioned any minute now!!!)

Face it buddy, Calgary has nowhere near the culture that Edmonton has. It's common knowledge.

Rule of thumb: Using probably is not a good way to win an argument
For all know, Guiness could have got the 20 million number from an Edmonton Tourist department.
Secondly, let's go with your 10 million number. Lets say an average Edmontonian, heck, let's throw in the Metero Edmonton area. Okay...the average metro Edmontonian visits West Edmonton Mall 3 times a year (3 million visits by Edmontonians - even though the number is likley lower).
That leaves 7 million visits from the Rest of Canada, United States, Europe, and Asia.
Lots of cowboys Calgarians bring their sisters spend nights at the Fantasy Land Hotel....

I think the Calgary Zoo is amazing - I certainly won't try to take anything away from it, and from what Ive heard its expanded substancially. I wish Edmonton's Zoo wasn't only for kids (Mother Goose Avenue, whatever...)
Edmonton does have more than its fair share of festivals. So to say that there is nothing here besides that mall is very foolish. I would say that we can boast one of North America's liveliest arts & culture scenes. Maybe next century Calgary can catch up once you can get past cowboy hats and spurs.
And just for Familia, the guy who thinks that Guinness is just a book of blatant lies because of someone with long fingernails, here you go.
Scroll your beady eyes down to where it reveals that WEM is indeed Alberta's biggest tourist hotspot. Sorry to burst your bubble. And Calgarians can't take credit for Banff, its not part of Calgary.

Like I said, there's NOTHING in Calgary that's comparable to West Edmonton Mall.

You are absolutely right.
The world's largest collection of dollar stores, dead dolphins and decapitating roller coasters isn't something I would shout from the rooftops if it was in my backyard.
Seriously man, it's a big shopping mall. Do you really think it's that great? Do you really think its something to hold up to the world and be proud of? We all take shots at each other's city but come on, it's just a mall. Edmonton, begrudgingly, has some other things to show off, but a suburban shopping mall is nothing special no matter how big it is. Every other city, Calgary included, has the same stores, the same crap, shopping malls, amusement parks, the same everything. Granted it's not all under one roof, but that doesn't make the mall a giant tourist bonanza.
That 20 million number, whether it's true or not, is pointless. How many visitors are Edmontonians going to it over and over because it's the closest mall? 19 million? At least.
It's a mall.

Yeah because dolphins were dying here left & right. And everyone who ventures inside lives in fear of the scary decaotating rollercoaster.
To Edmontonians it's just mall, and a nuisance at that, but to tourist's it is truly transcendant.
BTW, staff at WEM DO have PhDs in numerous areas such as veterinarian sciences (doctors and tech students), animal husbandry, marine biology, icthyologists, and inclusdes a huge group of external consultants on the payroll. People are frequently flown in from the states for consultation. There are also numerous students in the above fields who spent part of their studies at the mall to get hands on training.
Many marine animals siezed at the boarder by customs are sent to Edmonton for rehabilitation. For instance, once a Sea Turtle was found in a suitcase and had developed a break between the shell and membrane so he couldn't dive. He still lives in the mall and is fed, washed, and cared for every day.
WEM also currently has 15 iguanas that were abandoned by people that are now cared for very well.
