An Athletic article broke down how Gully used his pairings during 5v5 action last year, and there really wasn't much difference between the pairings at even strength. What really drove the disparity between "1st" and "3rd" pairings were special teams - so, if Valimaki earns a spot, I see no issue with having him on that 3rd pairing and then seeing his role grow/shrink depending on performance. Worst case scenario is that he gets sent back down before playing his 10th game.
