Hamilton scored 11 goals and 41pts playing #5 Dman minutes imagine what he will do with top 4 minutes?
It is pretty clear that Dougie was eased in by the coaching staff and pat the beginning Hartley did not want to mess with his successful top 4 from last year. Dougie has looked really good playing with Brodie.
Anyone wanting to trade him should give their head a shake in my opinion. He turned out to be as advertised with a huge ceiling he can still reach
As I recall he wasn't eased in at the start of the year and that's when he looked the worst, playing with Giordano. He clearly got more comfortable as the year went on. I went through the thread and not sure I found one poster who wants to trade him.

Hamilton is maybe a better player but Hamonic is on a better contract and more what the Flames need. Also, if the Flames don't get him someone in the west will.
I don't think there's anything to the rumour and I agree Roy is likely gone before Duchene unless there's a huge return - something involving Duchene for Drouin and a defenseman maybe?
Having said that, I also don't think Roy was overly critical of Duchene. What NHL coach do you think wouldn't be annoyed by Duchene's celebration scoring late when they were being drubbed 4-0 (4-1) late in the third in a must-win game for them to make the playoffs. I don't think Duchene exudes character. I don't think he has ever played anywhere near his potential and have my doubts that he ever will. He should be a point per game player year in year out.
Watch the below video and tell me again thats not character

So you were just being argumentative when I said we're not trading Hamilton and you said:

Brodie is the better player so I get we wouldn't move him. Gio is the team's leader but I don't think the Isles would make that trade anyway, would they?
IDK, I think you need to figure out how to build a championship team without trying to build an all star team with your top 4 d-men. At least in a salary cap league.
Kind of confusing, no?
I was talking about how I can't see the Flames (or many here) wanting to swap Hamilton for Hamonic and the few pages after pretty much underlined that.
Sure seemed by your initial comments you that's what you were getting at.

You are right about the beginning of the year they tossed him to the wolves woth Gio who hadn't played in 9 months and they were very bad. Once Brodie came back he played on the third pair but was eased into the second pair with Russell
New team, new contract, new conference, new system, playing with a very rusty player. I will give him a pass on the first 20 or so games just like Gio gets a pass. Considering how awful those 2 starred the fact we sit here today and they have 41 and 55 points is pretty remarkable. Really looking forward to next season

I'll call it right now. The big three are going to combine for 40 goals and 170 points next season.
Hamilton 16-43-59
Giordano 16-40-56
Brodie 8-47-55
Hamilton is going to explode in a big way next year
It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see Gio get 20 again. Dude is a beast when it comes to fitness and still has a sweet skillset. Yea its crazy to think these numbers can still go up!

Wouldn't surprise me either, but I wouldn't bet on it. He scored 22.9% of his career goals this year, at the tender age of 32. I think 16 is an optimistic, but fair prediction.

As I said I would not trade Hamilton for Hamonic. Hamilton has more value. Nor do I "want" to trade the guy. But I also think it's not preposterous to suggest Hamonic might be more of what the Flames need than what Hamilton brings. I am not sure we should only measure our defensemen's effectiveness by goals and points.

I agree with what you are saying, but there are other players we can get with very little acquisition cost that can provide those same skills. Hamonic is going to be very expensive to acquire, and I would stay clear of him for that reason.
I don't know why you are referencing Ricardo. Point is, 4 other defenseman received more ice time on the Flames this year. Period. Do I think Hamilton is more valuable than Wideman and Russell? Ofcourse. But when the games mattered, the coaching staff played those guys more. That's not really up for interpretation.
I would suggest your analysis is overly simplistic, focusing on points. And what does Norris caliber defenseman mean? Is Doughty on the Flames? Let's be honest about what we have. Hamilton is still more about potential than performance.
Your views on Hamonic vs. Hamilton are legitimate as your opinion and as a debate.
The thing that really I disagree with was your assertion that Hamilton is the 5th best dman on the team. When you make a comment like that you better be prepared to defend it. It's ok to just admit that you were looking at things overly simplistically by looking at one TOI stat and then appealing to authority as your entire argument.
BTW, a Norris-calibre defenseman is one that received Norris votes in spite of missing the last 20 games of the year. He was a shoe-in for the trophy until he got hurt.

First he would have to waive is NTC (modified), and the Flames would have to try and work in 5.25 AAV for the next 3 years and actually give up some, probably valuable, assets to get a 32 year old goalie. Then if there is an expansion draft Treliving will be tasked with trying to figure out which ONE goalie he'd have to protect. There is possibility if Treliving protected Gilles (most likely target if Gillies qualified) and we lose our assets in the trade and possibly Fleury after a year or two... There has to be a better target.
All that being said I would like to have a goalie with MAF's stats in front of our team.
MAF has only been good this year and last... every other year a choker, maybe he has matured/gotten better, I dunno, but with the Avs wanting Pickard to be #1, I would much rather go after Varlamov.

And it seems Varlamov has fallen outta favor with Patty Roy..
