At some point soon they should just sit him and wait for a trade
He is having a great year, his value is not going up much by playing more
And definitely not risking him during the Olympics
Unless of course nobody offered anything valuable

7 games in 11 or 12 days for teams that make it to the medal games at the Olympics. That's a packed schedule that can lead to injuries.

Have to think that would be almost a certain grievance with the NHLPA if it lasted more than one game. Doubt they would look fondly on a player having their stats reduced by playing fewer games in a contract year and thus the value of their contract being reduced.

In my case the logic might be that a player would put themselves in a more dangerous position in a playoff/medal round game because the games mean so much more than they would in game 58 or 67 of the regular season where they know there are a lot more regular season games to play.
Especially in the case of defensemen and shot blocking.

I just wonder if Ras could be convinced to extend in Detroit if that is part of the stipulation.
I just know how awful that injury was for him when he was in Detroit a couple years ago. And wonder if that could be part of his decision.

I can almost guarantee that 1 nhl team will lose a stud player for extended time because of olympics.

Out of everyone in the situation, Andersson has the most to lose in case of an injury this season (in or out of the olympics).
If anything, the risk of an injury in his contract year should add to the motivation for him to sign an extension before the Olympics. After working so hard to have a better season than last year, now it the perfect time for him to capitalize, get the 8 year contract, and eliminate the risk that he get injured between now and July 1.

Olympic participation is in the CBA. If the player wants to go not sure there is much a team can do to stop them

FWIW I've heard that some teams would like to bring him on before the break as well, so its a bit of a mish mash out there.
I'd argue Craig pulls the trigger to the best deal available, no time dependency.

Wonder if this is Yzerman doing Conny a solid.
Weird that this kind of leak would happen. Could be a leak to force other teams to up their offers.
If Yzerman is interested in Coleman, maybe there’s a wink wink deal with conroy to throw this offer out for Andersson to pressure the other buyers to up their offers.
Making this offer public (with the understanding an extension is required) gives flames/red wings an off ramp (couldn’t get extension done). But puts pressure on the other suitors.

I guess they'll have to decide if the offers they're getting right now to move him before the break are going to be better than a trade deadline trade. How can one project that in confidence?

Makes it trickier as the Detroit offer with Danielson is based on an extension. Calgary isn’t getting a deal like that at the deadline if he’s just a rental.
Might be why this offer is circulating—that the agent has been given the green light to negotiate an extension with Detroit and he’s trying to get more options for Andersson, either because Rasmus has a couple of other preferred destinations… or just to put more pressure on Detroit to up their cash offer by having the threat of another team in the mix.
I bet if he signs in Detroit, the price is over $9m x 8.

I really can't seeing the Olympics being that big of a deterrent, are all the teams collectively waiting for Andersson to go to the Olympics? I don't believe besides Ullmark or maybe Elias Petterson? Are there even any players going to the Olympics besides Andersson on the block? I can't see every team making offers that not one of them has the cajones to pull the trigger prior.
Edit:
Just read Groots post, ya okay about there own players getting injured and needs changing. I can get that..

Then add in that when you look at the standings right now, how many teams are playoff locks? 3 in the West? It was either Sec or Royle that said teams in the East want to create separation, which makes sense as 8 points (with the top team having played 2-3 more games) is the difference between leading a division and missing playoffs.
|
If Seider gets injured, they need a defensemen even more so and their negotiation leverage goes down..
Or any contender gets a key defensemen injury and enters the Anderson market who isn't currently after him (or are but increase their need and offer).
The whole injury thing can go so many ways; I doubt teams wait on that.

If CC is waiting to pull the trigger on the best deal… I can’t see a much better return than a 1st and a top prospect.
