Fans love him. Lots of Huby jerseys in the dome. He is comfortable here.
That’s coming from a guy that really didn’t want him here. Even I’ve come around.

I'm fine with that. Huberdeau and Kadri have their NMC and get to decide if they are moving or not.
- The word is that Kadri has set down roots and family and the decision to stay here is personal.
- Huberdeau may not want to stick around for a couple more years of retooling, especially if the Andersson trade signals that we want to bottom out. If his play this year makes him tradeable then he may be open to a trade to a team on the upswing.
It will be very tough on team tank if Kadri and Huberdeau keep the team closer to the playoff bubble than the top of the draft list.

Hanley is looking to be more desirable than Bean, but Bean is under contract for next season and Hanley is UFA.
Pospisil is only on the "first" line because he keeps playing on Kadri's wing. I agree, it would be great if a prospect takes his spot and forces him down the lineup or onto the trade block.
I would definitely look at how to trade some winger prospects and/or draft capital to land a blue-chip or grade-A C.

Except a centreman this time, as we're flush on the wings. I don't know if there is anyone out there who would fit that role; essentially, a centreman who thinks they are a 3rd line or better centreman who would be willing to play on the Flames' 4th line because they failed to get a better offer elsewhere in the league. Easy peasy.

No defence. No forwards. No goaltending.
Opposing teams stick their top shutdown guys on Bedard and his two 3rd liner linemates (right now it's Donato and Nazar) and how much can he do?
McDavid came into the league behind Draisatl and Nugent-Hopkins. Eichel came in behind O'Reilly and Reinhardt. Mackinnon had Duchenne and O'Reilly sheltering him.
Bedard has no one. Chicago wouldn't be dumb enough to trade him, but if they wanted Parekh plus both Calgary firsts this year, get it done.

Jesus...that would pass Gilmour as the worse trade in Flames history.

Just can't see any team on the upswing looking to add a 32 year old making 10.5M a year for another 6 years that has averaged 55 points in Calgary. We would have to hope for the resurrection of the Arizona franchise to dump that contract lol.

Here is the top 25 18-year old seasons:
1. Dale Hawerchuk
2. Sydney Crosby
3. Steve Yzerman
4. Jimmy Carson
5. Ron Francis
6. Bobby Carpenter
7. Phil Housley
8. Brian Bellows
9. Patrik Laine
10. Nathan MacKinnon
11. Jeff Skinner
12. Connor Bedard
13. Trevor Linden
14. Jaromir Jagr
15. Kirk Muller
16. Macklin Celebrini (and climbing)
17. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
18. Dan Quinn
19. Ilya Kovalchuk
20. Alexandre Daigle
21. Eddie Olczyk
22. Sam Gagner
23. Ted Kennedy
24. Steve Stamkos
25. Rasmus Dahlin
https://www.statmuse.com/nhl/ask/mos...8-year-old-nhl
So it's a real mixed bag, and some guys that scored more than Bedard didn't end up as stars. I think Bedard could be a star and maybe even a superstar, but a lot of that is up to him. But him scoring as he did as an 18-year old is impressive, but ultimately meaningless, I think.

This list is excluding people due to when their birthday is, it should be D+1 year. But as is, no Mario (100 pts), no McDavid, etc, etc, etc

They can't really move all the vets without paying for other vets, especially if Andersson is being moved. I guess they could take on bad contracts? I don't really see the owners doing that. They are hesitant to retain cap, let alone pay millions for players they know will be bad.

Why would you suggest they are “hesitant to retain cap”?

Also, instead of calling people unhinged, try to understand the point they're making. I am sure if you try, you can figure out that I wasn't suggesting Coronato might become Crosby.

Well this is coming from the poster who rolls his eyes at suggesting Craig Button isn't the best guy at judging talent. You know, the guy stuck at TSN because he can't get a job as a scout? Clearly Monahammer also thinks trading Marc Savard for Ruslan Zainullin was a solid deal. Trading a vet for a prospect there, great deal. And trading away JS Giguere, that was a solid call as well. But the standout has to be letting Martin St Louis walk for nothing, what a bum that guy turned out to be right Monahammer? You go guy.

In the chase episode Conroy said they had a chance at retention, but it was multiple years, and that is fair not to retain many years. I think they have plans for the cap space.

Zayne plus the Flames two first this year -which are both 18-32 - for Bedard would be the greatest trade in this franchises history
This take is only rivalled by your prediction Kuzmenko would be a 80-100 point player for the Flames

Tying up a retention spot for multiple years for next to no reward doesnt make much sense...that spot potentially being more beneficial in the future was more his point IMO

I think it less a plan for the cap space but rather the retention slots. If they retained for multiple years they would only have one next year.

It wasn’t a hot take. You wanted him signed to an extension for more money.

I don’t think using retention for 2 years is wise you guys are agreeing with me. Unless it comes with some prime assets.

Yes even with his better play, Huberdeau is only getting traded for a comparable contract.

In the 2024 offseason trade forum. Posts around the 5000 and 6105... you were on the topic of resigning him for an absurd amount of money for a while.
Don't call people liars and "Trump" when you're acting like that... it's a very Trump thing to do.
