Also, the maternal death rate in the United States is roughly twice that of Canada and roughly 6 times that of Germany. Who could have foreseen that a system founded on not providing primary care to vulnerable populations ie the poor, the pregnant, and new mothers (who have minimal maternity leave as well) would have consequences? For anyone to comment on how good the United States healthcare system is, using emergency care as a benchmark, has absolutely no idea of health systems and the root causes of disease and associated deaths.

Ya... because I sure said an infants death is less tragic.
I guess if you agree that anyone should be allowed to have an abortion you would agree with something like that though. So maybe you were actually being serious.

But okay, that is pretty much the same.

Did you know that Calgary is the 33rd largest city in North America? Here's the list of the top 500;

This is a completely irrelevant contribution to the conversation. Carry on.

We may not be a shiny example doing everything right, and have a lot to fix on our end, but it is better than the American one by most metrics. Again, I don't think you'll find many arguments that Canada is perfect or near it.

The big takeaway is that we found an unexpected increase in infant mortality in Texas—about a 13% increase—that wasn't observed in the rest of the United States. This suggests that SB 8 was driving this increase in infant mortality

My wife would be dead if we lived in the states, so I personally don't think it's even a debate. It's no contest.

Anyone with good/great insurance, which is about 2/3 of Americans, enjoy the best health care in the world. Of course the measure of any society is how well those less fortunate fare, and America is probably the worst when is comes to that.

Abortions don’t apply to infants, but good effort!

What’s interesting though is that life expectancy even among wealthier Americans only compares to poor people in other countries. So despite having access in theory to superior care Americans die sooner.

We weren't even less fortunate at the time, middle class. She'd be dead and I'd be left with a lifetime of debt. Trust me, I looked into it at the time.

I've seen charts that show you need to make like $300k per year in the USA before you reach the average lifespan of people in the other developed countries.

Is health care in the U.S. strictly a federal thing? Like could a state put it in their constitution that universal health care is a basic right and then raise the taxes to support it?

The top 20 per cent is likely paying 70 per cent or more of all income taxes

On average, two of every five Canadian households do not pay anything towards federally and provincially funded expenses such as health care, education, community and social services, national defence, public safety and even the good old Canada Revenue Agency

One household of every five pays much more than 70 per cent of all of those costs.
