I can only conclude that you are being deliberately obtuse. Let's try that again:
OG Point: Children die because parents can't afford healthcare in the US
My Point: No they don't, it's the law to not provide emergency care for anyone
Counter Point: Children die because parents can't afford simple, preventative healthcare (which prevents horrible and fatal diseases from occurring or progressing past the point of being treatable).
My Point: Blah blah blah.

Quite frankly their point is a very Canadian perspective on US health care. If you don't have insurance you may have to pay out of pocket for non serious medical care, but again there are a litany of ways to reduce that cost or get it wiped out.
it's just another case of single payer healthcare advocates feeding doom and gloom to the ignorant

Poster B: Healthcare isn't great in the USA compared to other developed nations.
You: How dare you?

I'm far from Mel's side here, but children's Medicaid (and I only have knowledge of Virginia) is generally a good program and free for families making under about 40-50k. It includes dental/prescriptions and is widely accepted.

The results are more what matters though. And the mortality rate among U20 year olds in the US is about 45% higher than it is in Canada. And countries with better access to medical care than Canada do even better.
Sure there are other reasons for that like lifestyle. But fundamentally it comes down to the fact that lower income people in the US have significantly poorer access to things like preventative medical care, medication, healthy food, and physical activity opportunities than they do in other industrialized nations.

If you're including teenagers, I think that might have to due more with guns and cars.
Homicide, suicide and accidents. If you own a gun, you're more likely to shoot someone or yourself by accident than on purpose.
If you drive or get driven more than taking transit, you'll be in accidents.
It's not just better access to medicare, it's better access to the whole social structure of the country.

I definitely think for historic, population and economic reasons you could not plausibly combine any of BC, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, or Newfoundland in with any other district. You might plausibly make an argument that Manitoba & Saskatchewan could be combined and the NB / NS / PEI could end up as 1 or 2 districts. But Alone 4 of those provinces would still be within the range of middle 3rd population states, so it's wholly implausible that any lines would change except a very controversial decision to roll PEI into New Brunswick.
That's where I got the number 7 minimum from, but if you're taking Trump seriously, it's not even a real conversation without 18+ senate seats, and you're a asking Canada to create some very real representation issues with the Territories. I think the Americans who are all giddy talking about this dumb idea, don't have a complete comprehension of that.

The 5-year cohorts within that group show roughly the same discrepancy though. 1-4 and 5-9 year olds in the US have a ~40% higher mortality rate than in Canada.

Does it bother anyone else that in response to threats from America that they're going to make us their 51st state, some of our leaders respond by calling them our best friend? I understand Canada isn't a "big boy" on the world stage relatively and isn't going to scare anyone, and I'm not expecting the response to be anything of a threatening nature, but calling them our best friend is irritating, but also not all that surprising to me.

Have you heard that in some way besides in the context of “we’re your best friend, stop being a dick”?
I think the majority of leaders have told Trump to knock it off.

It bothers me seeing these idiots going on Fox news and getting trolled and create sound bites.
How about just shut the #### up and do your job. Doug Ford being the idiot he is.
Also seeing our idiot premier going to Trumps inauguration. Like why? Are you going to be on your knees begging him to be your friend?

We should be threatening Trump. Maybe we should take over the US we need another province to balance things out. Premier Donald Trump of the great province of America.
Americans will be introduced to health care and safe schools, parents won't have to worry sending kids to school.

Yeah, I don't like how he keeps doing his media appearances on Fox, MSNBC, etc. but I actually appreciate his response compared to the other premiers (like Alberta) as he's been firm and strong. He too though keeps calling them our best friend ugh. We get it, we're close, save that for when they aren't threatening us.
