Yes, dont Ask, doesnt get.
Come to Soviet Calgary! We're slowly embracing Eastern Europe. We serve Borscht and Vodka after practice!
We even like the Belarussians! (We know they're Russians, no worries )

The only reason I wouldn’t be okay with this is irrational fears of repeating Kidd/Brodeur. Just a different way.

Vladar? Their whole thing is that they're set in goal (starter, back up + Askarov) to the point of a goalie asking for a trade.

Nashville is in win now mode, there's little chance they're looking at a futures deal, they will want a young to mid, cost controlled piece that can help win now.

I just don't want him to go to SJ and turn into a top 5 guy. That would be particularly bad for the Flames, given where the two teams are at in their rebuild cycles.

I would be thrilled with Tomasino & Askarov. Although I'm pretty sure Nashville would ask for more in return than just Andersson, even if there's retention involved.

Which is why the Wolf suggestion wouldnt really do anything for them. At least Vladar is known quantity. He wouldn't be of value here any longer unless another trade.

I've said numerous times that Marner will eventually go. He just doesn't want to give up his position that he's willing to go to anyone. He's a fragile guy when it comes to criticism (I get it, at times I can be the same especially if I feel it's undue). The second he or the team goes through a tough stretch, eyes will immediately turn to him. He knows it. If it's a compelling city for him, I have no doubt he'll go. There just has to be an incentive. Marner for Askarov would be giving up too much for the Leafs though. Probably a bigger set of stuff going from Nashville, I'd guess.

Nashville also has like 3 million in cap. Marner makes 10 they can't just take on his full salary.

Right, but Vladar also has no value for Nashville, hence why I suggested starting with Vladar is a non starter.

If it’s for Askarov, I would back up the truck. Considering how many firsts we have in the next few years, I wouldn’t hesitate to give one up if that’s part of the price.

As much as we are all fans of Wolf, and as much as it’s hard to swallow for Flames fans, this is accurate.

Ohh....I hate to say this. I hate it.
But I'd be okay with retaining some Cap and moving Coleman.
He is currently my favourite player, but he's not going to win anything here.
If he got us some picks and/or young assets?
I'm leaving it there because I'd more than happily keep Blake Goalman.

That would be counter productive in my mind.
Unless someone is offering us a 22 year old #1C we should be moving zero picks the next 3 years.

I'm feeling this way too. Especially since we'll likely recoup more picks at the deadline in separate deals.
Also need to be realistic and assume not every 1st rounder will hit.

Pretty sure they would rather have a top end prospect in a different position.
With our depth in the defense and wings, I would love to make a prospect swap of Coronato for Askarov. *IF* we were in on Askarov. I think it would be best if we stuck to wolf and Vladar though. Give Wolf the confidence that we believe in him and want him to be our future starter. I bet the ask is insane too.

Who do we have left to trade? I can't see anyone outside of Andersson getting us a 1st back in any trade.
Kadri, Huberdeau, Backlund and Weegar are not being traded, and Huberdeau for sure would cost us something to trade not get us a 1st.
That leaves Coleman, and I don't know if he gets a first.

Well it'd definitely be situational on which teams will be in the hunt going into the deadline but I'd say Andersson, Coleman, and Kuzmenko if he can keep his production up which I think he will with the ice time he'll get.
I also didn't necessarily mean strictly a 1st in my post when I say picks. After last years draft I have a ton of faith in Conroy and the scouting team. I think there's options with guys like Mantha or Pospisil to get a 2nd or 3rd.
I'd personally still take the chance on Askarov even if we don't get a 1st back in separate deal.
