So...
Askarov to CBJ
Laine to Nashville

Dallas and Calgary in there just for double retention on Laine?

Or Askarov to CBJ
Laine to Dallas
Nashville and Calgary in there for double retention.

Nashville and Dallas both want to be in the playoffs and have very little room in cap, so doubt either of them would be in on retention. Dallas has $4.6M but need to sign Harley still, Nashville just paid assets to move out Glass to make space.

Honestly I don't really see a need or fit for Laine in either Nashville or Dallas from both a roster fit and cap space perspective.

If anything I think that both those teams need another top 4 dman more than they need Laine.

Nashville: Josi, Skjei, Carrier, Schenn, Fabbro, Lauzon,

Dallas: Heiskanen, Harley, Lindell, Dumba, Lyubushkin, Lundkvist, Smith

Both of those teams feel like a team that would have more interest in a d-man than a forward.

The Flames definitely need to look into it, but no trading first rounders for a goalie.

There is zero need for a goalie in Calgary

For maybe 5 more years

We don't need a goalie, especially one is going to steal games for us for the next few years.

We need Vladar.

Disagree.

At this point both Wolf and Askarov probably only have a 50% chance of becoming an impact NHL starter.

You get two of the top goalies prospects in the world and you put yourself in a great position.

If both guys hit on their potential - great you probably have elite goaltending and can move one from a position of strength.

If only one guy hits - you probably still have your starter and back up figured out for a while.

If neither of them hit as an impact goalie - then you have to go back to the drawing board.

And really for the next 2-3 seasons I think you could have Wolf and Askarov playing 40 games each while you figure that out.

Which makes Askarov perfect for Calgary.

At 22 (Askarov) & 23 (Wolf), both of Askarov & Wolf are likely needing atleast a few years of 20-40GP before they're ready to be a top starter in the league. That's IF, they're ever ready for that.

Nashville's ask from us would likely be Wolf. Would you be willing to do Wolf for Askarov, straight up?

Good for him, shouldn't be buried in the AHL just cause the preds Don have a spot to play him properly. Can't blame the press for sticking with Saros either.

Nope, Wolf may be smaller but his positioning seems to have him covering the net better than askarov (from the little I've seen of Askarov)

Wolf would be in the same situation there, so I'm not sure that would be the ask. Maybe Vladar plus gets you in the door to negotiate.

Would be great to have both but I think the cost to get Askarov would be too much (likely a first round pick or one of Zary or Coronato).

Preds have Wedgewood to backup for two years. No chance they want Vladar.

Andersson would be the ask IMO.

Tomasino + Askarov for Andersson...feels pretty close in value TBH.

Preds have Josi and Skjei as top 4 on the LH side, but on the RH side only have Carrier, Schenn, and Fabbro.

Thats because every goalie is 6'4+ now. So 6' now is kind of like the new Irbe/Beezer. I certainly don't think he's smaller than Saros.
