But above average overall.
Not a poor one.

But only time will tell how it will end up. In the past, drafts like 2003 and 2013 were labeled as stacked. Media and scouting services quite often label a few drafts after a draft labeled one of the best ever as not a good or not good at all.
2003 was a great draft, but maybe 3 of the top 10 players taken were game changers. Suter, Fleury and Staal. Lots of great players scattered 11-60 overall. Only really Pavelski was a star 3rd round on.
You can make a case that the 09 top 10 is just as good as 03 yet was labeled worse than the Stamkos draft and maybe labeled to be the worst draft from 03-09. But it ended up being a good draft.
2013 was supposed to be much better than 2014. You could make a case the 14 draft has better players drafted in the 1st round than 13 did.
2023 is being labeled as best draft since 03 and it could be. But quite often the hangover after a great draft and what the scouts are saying end up being wrong and overstated at least.

100% pump the breaks. Only incredibly negative hyperbole is acceptable around here, not positive and excited hyperbole.

I also said Conroy could be setting this team up for a dynasty. I didn't think I needed to state the odds of it playing out that way is very low.
His plan seems to be that he is trying to build a dynasty team. So many teams fail at this though, but he seems to have a plan.

Haven't seen it posted yet, but Conroy also said that both Tanev and Hanifin will be in Boston with the Flames. Interpret that as you will...

I think it’s just good business to spread out these first round picks.

All true, but the way Lanny described things, in terms of how it is perceived is not what I've read.

If the Flames have 3+ firsts I bet they trade one...and for a young player I am all for it
Some of you are trashing the draft so bad, these things will be gold on draft day...especially to a team that also has cap

100%.
Maximizing players at or before the trade deadline.
Maximizing picks at the draft (I'll generally lean towards "make the picks" though).
That's what's in front of Conroy right now.

Only one who has said anything close to that is Pronman, and we know how accurate he is. It’s a defenseman heavy draft and not a ton of top end talent.

That’s what the early draft previews have said. I don’t see the hype cycle changing that.

And those are always right, where was the current NHL scoring leader ranked in his draft?

I'm all for it.
Can't help but think that David Jiricek might be available at some point, given that his relationship with the BJs seems to be a bit rocky. That's the kind of talent I'd be targeting with extra picks

Ideally I'd like to see the Flames land at the 6th pick. Don't think they can get much lower than that.
Then maybe at 6 they get some lotto luck and jump to 3rd. Then it's Cayden Lindstrom time.

Don't think they have a lottery for the top 3 anymore...isn't it just a lottery for the top 2 now?

Plus, the current 3rd place points leader was picked at #25.

You can move up 3 positions in the lottery outside of winning 1 OA
