He also had no choice on his destination we could have sent him to San Jose for a 3rd.

Toffoli did nothing but act on hurt feelings.

Pass on picking up a 25 year third pairing dman from Nashville. Pass on the Florida deal for the same reason.

Would be willing to do Toronto, prefer if the second pick was higher than a 5th, Klingberg has negative value. Vancouver would have to add more to make that appealing at all.

Nobody is giving Tofolli term. Sharangovich and the pick was actually a pretty good return. I hope all of our remaining UFAs return more though.

I think even the Zadorov haters would say Zadorov >>> Gudbranson.

But fact is Zadorov has been the Flames' best possession player since joining the team. Sure guys like Tanev get harder minutes. But guys like Tanev have also struggled big time this season with those minutes. And it is not like Zadorov is being played like an offensive defenceman, he sees plenty of defensive zone starts, is fifth in special team minutes, etc.

He signed it with an expansion team with a ton of cap room that had no expectations of being good any time soon.

Dude has 3 points and is a -1. He obviously wasn't a 3D on Dallas - they let him go for free.

You need to watch games more closely.

Zadarov is also sheltered by 4 dmen ahead of him. If the Flames trade Hanifin and Tanev before Zaradov a lot of the shine will come off

The Flames should not be signing any of their older players to contracts, certainly not longterm contracts.
You still need veterans on the roster to teach the younger guys. And doesn't hurt if he's Russian when two of your better d-men prospects in the minors are fellow countrymen. (Solovyov is technically Belarusian, but close enough)

And Zadorov is only 28.

So with no cap dump coming back what do we think Zadorovs value is?
Mid/Late first?
Two seconds?
Tofolli like with Sharangovich and a third?

Well, that reasoning is a little flawed - Dallas protected Heiskanen, Lindell, and Klingberg ahead of him. At the time, Klingberg was coming off 36 points in 53 games, and Oleksiak was a pending free agent to boot. A lot of teams lost players they would rather not have. His -1 is not bad for a team that is 5-6-3 and been outscored by 11.

He's being sheltered by four guys who are underperforming.

While that may or may not be true, a team that has trouble attracting players to stay, should absolutely not be sending players to a crappy destination just because you can.

I am almost positive Weager and Rasmus are veterans and can teach younger players. No need to sign a guy to an expensive longterm contract to be a veteran for one player who is not even a slam dunk to be a NHL player.

How likely is it that he gets a long term injury? Very unlikely. Its why players go to UFA all the time over taking lower deals.

What is much more likely is that he is going to have another good offensive season on a play-off team with the chance of showing again that he is a good play-off producer.

That likely gets him a bigger deal that hanging around a non-play-off Flames team putting up lesser numbers.
