Still young enough to be part of things if he figures his #### out.
I could see him being one of the guys that suffered a bit under Sutter last year.
|
But, with Lindholm, Backlund, and Toffolli potentially gone, Mang might be playing quite a bit higher in the lineup. Could have a much stronger year.

I have no idea how they fit in the cap though, even if Calgary retains.

Eh, as a Sabres fan I wouldn't be thrilled with this, one or the other + something smaller. Retaining salary doesn't sweeten anything for us either, we've got lots of cap space for this upcoming season.

That’s a pretty appealing package.

Juicy. Although from Yzerman's comments, it might be tough:
Quote:
“When we have all these draft picks, what I’m trying to do is build a nucleus of young players that’s going to be the core of the team for a significant period of time or for the future. If we give up those pieces – and these draft picks, there’s no guarantee they’re going to turn into that – we have to feel the player we’re acquiring is going to be a part of that core for a long period time. It doesn’t make sense to give up pieces that we need to build a core, and in 3-4 years that player has retired or moved on and we still don’t have that core in place.

They might not have the cap space for what he wants. I also would imagine their prospect pool sucks without looking lol. I think Boston makes more sense if the Flames go the re-tool route. Carlo/Debrusk etc

I am little surprised you'd be happy with Jack Quinn at all to be honest.

Do any of you think Conroy will wait and see who is available at the draft before pulling the trigger on any deal involving a 1st?
I only ask because of the weak UFA market. If he isn't thinking he will get max value for a player, he most certainly would if a team missed out on a coveted UFA.
Could also see him making a deal to grab an additional 2nd or two if he feels that a lot of the prospects the scouts have on the board are still there past Wednesday night.

I think the main thing the Flames have learned is no more "mr. Nice guy" to players
Don't want to sign this more than fair contract offer considering you haven't got it done? Fine, see ya

Somebody may have mentioned this elsewhere, but is it actually possible for the Flames to get a trade done that includes a 2023 1st round pick before draft date for any players where an 8 year extension and sign and trade is in play. I don't believe the extension can actually be signed up the final year of the deal starts (i.e after July 1st.).
Would this have to be the Flames directing another team which player to take with their pick, and we wouldn't find out about it until July?

Depends. I'd say that would depend more on the acquiring team wanting to see if a player they like is available. If you have a deal you like and get cute with it then it could disappear.

Example would just be
Flames Acquire:
1st Rounder
X
X
Team X Acquires:
Elias Lindholm agrees to a 10.5x8 contract signed July 1.
Deal can still take place and players/agents wont pull fast ones on clubs.

This team need to inflate Mangiapane's stats with PP time before they even think about moving him.
Over the last three seasons Mangiapane's 53 goals at 5v5 ranks him 21st in the NHL (tied with Guentzel, McCann, Keller, Meier)
And his 98 points at 5v5 rank him 59th.
So that is top line goal and point produciton at 5v5.
But he has only 12 PP goals (119th) , and 20 PP points (216th) in that time.
Last player I'd be moving this offseason since I think it could really be selling low.

It would just take a tiny bit of faith in the player not doing something stupid between the draft and July 1st. I think the risk in minimal to the acquiring team though. They will have the contract in the drawer ready to go.
They'd have to wait till July 1st if other GMs will not give up a pick until the player can be signed because conditional draft picks based on signing are no longer allowed.
