Easy way to get rid of Lucic and his contract, Hanifin is a good asset, good contract, send him back to the USA cuz that's where he is going anyways.

Why would you need to get rid of a contract that expires in a few months.

Lucic's contract is expiring. Why'd you tank Hanifin's value by attaching Lucic to it? Trade Hanifin in the offseason instead. Flames would have to take back on similar cap from whoever they trade with.

Cap space, gets him off the roster, closes the book on Neal.

So Lucic + Hanifin for cap dumps from the other team + 2nd or something? Is what you want just to get out of Lucic's contract for half a season. Yikes

But you’re not using the cap space for anything and you’re taking a lower return on Hanifin to do it.
It’s really stupid, especially when your idea is to clear $10M even without moving Lucic

As much as some want it to be, goaltending isn't the primary issue with this team.
Maybe the second goal was a bit soft last night, but you can't let a guy waltz in alone like that in the NHL. Either way, Markstrom had his team in the drivers seat after that and once again, they couldn't come through.
|
Goaltending is the only thing they can hope to fix in a short amount of time. If the team can’t find a hot goaltender to ride for a while I think they’re done.
The team is riddled with players on bad contracts. Those can’t be traded without losing more draft picks, which is a bad way to run a team. Like it or not, the team isn’t changing much any time soon. The only big boost they could get is Kylington returning, but that seems less and less likely as time goes on.
The D this year has been lousy. Mackey has been a bust and after a good start, Stone is reaching his limit. Tanev has underperformed. Unfortunately there isn’t much relief coming from the AHL either.
And the forwards for whatever reason just aren’t meshing. To his credit Sutter has tried all sorts of combos, but nothing has worked well.

My way clears approx $20mm now plus should bring in a ton of picks.
So at this point are we really going to,
1) Miss Lucic?
2) Miss Sutter?
3) Miss Markstrom?
4) Miss Kylington?
5) Miss Hanifin?
The answer is no to all of the above. Do we really need players back right now? No

This is nonsense, honestly.

You won’t get a ton of picks and cap space though. What teams have the cap space to take on any of those contracts without sending anything back. Especially 10 mil in the Hanifin+Lucic trade. You are in fantasy or troll land

Not off to a good start ... 1) was incorrect.
Flames are 53.3% xGF% in front of Markstrom and 50.9% in front of Vladar.

Your way also ensures you get less picks than if you were to sell Hanifin without Lucic. Agree or disagree with moving those players out, your ideas on how to do it aren’t smart.

Just my opinion. However a lot of other people here are thinking the same so it’s not just me. Maybe it’s just too many players on their big contracts and no one hungry enough? Regardless not seeing a lot of enthusiasm here.

Guessing at the thoughts and enthusiasm level of 20 complete strangers is just fiction.
My question for Sutter dislikers ... did you have these same feelings all last season but had to just eat it because the team was doing well?
Coaching isn't the issue, the Flames finally have an elite coach in a market that is next to impossible to attract anything but average. If the team (that was remarkably enthusiastic last year) suddenly isn't enthusiastic they better cut that cancer out as effectively and quickly as they can.
Because an average team playing average will be worse with an average coach.

Or its a veteran laden team who have been there before and know the season is a long slog so they don't get too high or too low. It could be just as easily one as the other.

No my feeling last year is how it always is with Sutter. It’s great if there is buy in. We know from previous stints with us and LA that there is a shelf life with Sutter that after a certain point players check out. Heck Tkachuk has pretty much told the media he wanted no part of Sutter anymore. So yeah my thoughts were yay Sutter was connecting with the team and we did well. Now it’s just hard to not think of the impending expiry date we knew was coming at some point. I didn’t think it would be this year though.
