I wonder if that’s why Gallant was fired … he expected accountability. That firing didn’t make sense to me, but I cant see Gerard being okay with no accountability so that might explain it.

IMO - The nutball owner made it within inches of a Stanley Cup and thought he had the core to get it done. When they didn't do it the next year he got antsy and started ordering changes that he thought made them a winner, all the while moving further away from that goal.

He isn't wrong.

Their owner is missing the big picture and that's trickling down. They'll never win anything on their current path.
It was something I was predicting would happen to Vegas when they were trying their best late 90s-early 00s Rangers impression, where their only goal was to get the shiny new toy at every opportunity. At some point you start to change the locker room and the chemistry of the team, and with the way they've been treating some of their players (throwing them away to get said shiny new toy) they aren't going to have a team, they are going to have a collection of talent that is there for themselves and are essentially just mercenaries looking to have a fun time and get paid.

So I might be bad at Cap Math, but by my count, they have 10 million unaccounted for, but by my count, with Weber's salary on LTIR they have a little under 6mil with 3 RFA's to sign, all of which are likely to get raises on their last years salary, and would only give them 21 of 23 roster contracts used.

And next year no big contracts coming off the books, meaning likely more deals to be cap compliant next summer.

This is positively delightful.

They feel like a team set to crash at some point in the near future. Outside of Eichel and Theodore - all their best guys are over 30.

I think this was the problem in Florida for many years. They had immediate initial success as an expansion team, not to the same standard Vegas did, but really good for an expansion team. They had no problem getting good players to sign there, but it seemed like many of them just mailed it in. It was like a pre-retirement retirement. They got the money and lifestyle they wanted, so winning was nice, but losing wasn't a big deal either. Get by on the on the talent instead of work.

I wonder if Marchessault might be had. $5mm for 2 more years. Would fit the Flames window (some salary would need to go back).

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

I'd be absolutely all over this if it was possible.

No concerts in Calgary... at least BIG name ones.

On a more hockey note... I'd take Patch for 1 year at 7 million... a point per game guy will win us more than a few games.

It must have. It’s a glorious LTIR opportunity that Vegas missed out on.

The fact Kadri hasn't signed anywhere yet makes me think that the Islanders already have an agreement with him, knowing how Lou likes to operate.
