Because it does - all Vegas has done since they arrived in the league is push their chips to the centre of the table at every opportunity, and the one thing they haven’t managed to acquire is an Eichel-type centre.

Not even the insiders give this much thought. I suppose the general feeling is that if a team wants something bad enough, they'll do what they can to fit the contract. Cap gymnastics, trades, LTIR, etc. Teams find a way I suppose.

Conroy also confirms that it's going to be hard to fit a 10 million player under the cap. Still baffled by the late offseason work they did.

Vegas, it’s worth noting, is in possession of all of its draft picks for the next three years except this year’s 3rd and 4th - they still have a 3rd from the Rangers.

I suppose Smith and Krebs = $6M, so they have to just find $4M more. I would imagine they have to move Chandler Stephenson, so that's $2.75. Brossoit?
Calgary trading Monahan and Valimaki is almost $8M right there, so they just need to move $2M more - you could probably stand to move Dube at that point, for picks, if you couldn't move Zadorov or Gudbranson.

I'd move Dube ahead of Mangiapane, even though I like him a lot. He fits the age range for the Sabres better as well.

I predicted Vegas or LA last year for Eichel.
Vegas makes too much sense alright, in the sense that everything I want as a Flames fan, Vegas takes.

I don't hate this... I don't think we'd need to add prospects. Seems like a pretty good package for BUF.

Yeah that’s huge. I’d rather sub in Dube for Mangi if we are adding a prospect.

Zadorov isn't grossly overpaid...he got a slight raise on last season. Defensive numbers were solid last season.
Considering what they will have to give up the cap shouldn't be an issue

The **** are they going to run out of chips to push in?
Seems like no matter when an elite player becomes available, the same handful of markets are involved and just come up with new, creative ways to cheat the system to ensure teams like the Flames are used simply as leverage. The mirage of parity is becoming ridiculous.

Sure, I provided one sentence for a 6 minute segment. Context can be had by anyone who wants to listen to it.
Semi-verbatim of the key points, and anyone can judge for themselves:
"I would have liked young guys play with veteran guys"
"...with some teams you see a young guy with two stars to see how he does. With our team, we didn't even scrimmage to see [prospects] mixed in"
"Darryl wanted to start practicing as a team, we have a lot of turnover, [Darryl] want to work on things right from the beginning ... I understand why he wants to do it, but the management side, you always want to see the young guys get a chance with the big group"
"If we would put Ruzicka with Johnny and Tkachuk, or you always want to see him with NHL players so you can get a gauge."
Darryl was all business. He wanted to play a certain way, and certain guys and certain lines, so did we give prospects a ton of PP time or PK time? We didn't even see the young kids or even the AHL guys who were pushing. You would have like to see them in a few better positions"
"I understand, Darryl wanted to get ready for the regular season, and that was his main focus"

They will have an advantage of being a really attractive market for talent. But they are aging quickly and are probably in for a tough re-build when they need to do it.

He runs his team like how I run mine in a video game. Always chasing the next upgrade, regardless of optics. I suppose it hasn't hurt them really yet. That Tartar was a truly terrible move, like one of the worst in the last 5-10 years. Even acquiring Lehner was just weird. Fleury was the face of the franchise and a top goalie who has done nothing but produce excellent results. Loved in the room and a fan favorite. Weird.
I guess I you get the opportunity to snag piertrangelo and stone you should. Even patches I guess. When it comes down to it, I think they are more lucky than anything. Reaped the benefits of a bunch of dumb GMs doing insanely stupid #### that became a cautionary tale for Seattle. They are really lucky Karlsson and Stephenson turned out to be solid players but honestly I think it's as much luck as skill as far as McPhee goes. On paper that's a terrible center situation but it's working for them, so gotta give them credit. Imagine if they just kept Suzuki? That was a huge blunder.
It's not smoke and mirrors, they are good but they were gifted players like Theodore because the other guy was a moron. Traded Theodore to protect Manson and vatanen? Jesus christ.

Sending Gudbranson to the minors would save $1.2M, I think.

Wasn't the salary cap instated to control for "really attractive markets for talent" scooping up all the good players year after year?
So far all it's done is force those same markets to hire math nerds to explain why they're allowed to skirt the rules.
