Honestly wouldn't be surprised if he were to take a 1 year deal this offseason, be a UFA for the expansion draft, and then re-sign next off-season for 3-4 when the expansion draft isn't looming.

So getting drafted by Seattle will be a severe punishment.... Will it be as bad as the guys exiled to Vegas?

I feel like Ristolainen on the second pairing is better than Reinhart on the 2nd/3rd line. However, neither with only Buffalo's 8th overall entices me enough to move Gaudreau.

After Brodie's health scare last season, I would think he may be hesitant to accept a one year deal. I think he'd be more interested in the total dollars of his next contract.

5x5.5 for Brodie or 6x5.
It would be really great to be able to keep him. With 5.5-6 range would we still have room to get Hall and Markstrom?

Bennett+ Hanifin+ 1st 2020 for Laine.

No thank you.
Bennett and Hanifin is too much.
Bennett and 1st is too much.
Hanifin and 1st is too much.
All 3 is way too much.

Scoring Winger
|
All this to’ing and fro’ing on goaltenders has made me dizzy.
Is this why we have had such a challenge solving the position in any meaningful way in 8 years? Because there’s really only like maybe 1 goalie who year in year out performs reasonably consistently (Carey Price)?

Steal or not, there are too many red flag around Laine for my liking. The guy seems like a poor teammate.

Hanifin and a 1st is not unreasonable for a guy with 138 goals before his 23rd birthday.
Bennett and a 1st doesn’t get it done.
Hanifin + Bennett for Laine is also fair.
It’s Patrik Laine. If you can get him for two tertiary pieces, it’s irresponsible if you don’t.

I am of the opinion this team needs less players like Laine, not more. I get he is a goal scorer, but he doesn't bring any of the jam we seem to be lacking

Patrik Laine is possibly the most talented natural goal scorer the league has seen since Ovechkin. His shot makes him a threat from anywhere inside the blue line.
He’s 22. He’s probably not gonna be an altar boy. He’s probably going to have some maturity issues. Fix them.
The kid is a 6 ft 5 210 lb wingers who averages 34.5 goals a season.
When you have the chance to acquire that player, you take the shot. You have a better chance of doing something noteworthy with Patrik Laine on this roster than Sam Bennett and Noah Hanifin.
They’re not dynamic players.

For me it’s more than the player and pick. I’m just not sure what Laine really is, AND the money he wants.
