Inside the mind of an Oilers fan...Man is Tkatchuk ever in their heads..
Poor babies. I have heard... where from? Spector? Staples? Just like that post in the ATL that said the Flames were told to beat up the Leafs. A butt-hurt Oiler fan pretending to know something when they know nothing.
It isn't life. It is a game. Let it go. Enjoy the entertainment.
You’d think he speared someone in the face or something.
At this point the amount of time the media is clinging on to this non-story is just kinda creepy and strange. Aren’t there other things to talk about by now?
It's the nonsensical code that a player playing the game by the rules must fight a player that's salty about another player getting the best of him. Could you imagine in football if there was a code that every time a DB or Safety that flattened a receiver catching the ball across the middle of the field the defender would have to fight the receiver? It's clear that hockey culture is lagging far behind current society.

I always find this a fallacy comparing football and hockey. If a football player wants to avoid a hit he can lay down or run out of bounds. Hockey players are playing at twice the speed with a fence keeping them in bounds so a little frustration could build which causes them to fight. It is a penalty and the players pay the price with that.

Except it's not a fallacy. Ball carriers in football can go out of bounds on some plays but it's an inevitability they will take several hits during a game. Johnny avoids taking hits all the time as does McDavid. Even Tkachuk commented on how Kassain continued to remain on the tracks after taking the hits. Play dumb like Kassain then he pays the price by taking hard clean hits but playing smart and within the rules should not require fighting. None of the hits Tkachuk laid were penalties so why should he pay a price? Why should a player fight another that is frustrated? This mentality is archaic.

Its not Calgary that needs to be calmed down, its Edmonton that are acting like idiots.
And I love it when we hear a oiler fan friend of mine, I'm not doubting that he told you, I'm doubting his story. The league stated that Tkachuk's hits are clean, if anything they should be warning Edmonton that if Kassian does anything its a suspension for the rest of the year.
I would hope the NHL is in attendance.
Its a joke that the Edmonton media has whipped up that hockey team into a frenzy and dropped the collective IQ of that city in half. Worst more ignorant and most arrogant fanbase in the NHL, they deserve another decade of no playoffs.

One thing that I don't think has been talked about much in this whole saga from my perspective, is how / why this whole Tkachuk deciding to target Kassian started in the first place started. I mean let's be clear, if Kassian and Tkachuk fought, it's a miss match, Tkachuk knows that, he's no fool, but he's certainly finding ways to get the better of him, in a situation that in my opinion Kassian started.
And it goes back to last year in that one meaningful game in Calgary between these two teams. Kassian pulled the same crap in that game, but that time, he did so literally for no reason. There were no hits on him, there were no hits on his team mates of any substance in that game............yet Kassian (and the Oiler media for some reason) felt Tkachuk owed Kassian a fight.............mind blowing..............and he pulled the jump him tactic at that time.
In that game, Tkachuk was slew footed by Draisatl and he ended up in scrum (where nothing happened) that McDavid started with Backlund. I get the whole protect McDavid thing, but even the most bias Oiler fan would have to admit nothing remotely concerning or physical happened to any of their stars in that game, or was even attempted on their stars.
Yet some how Kassian felt like Tkachuk owed him a fight............and jumped him. There's a lot of big talk from the Oilers right now about the code etc..... but he's the one that crossed the line first. He's the one that showed Tkachuk that he was going to go outside the code and jump him. He showed Tkachuk what he's really all about, and what kind of respect he deserves........which is none. So if Tkachuk's response to a player who's shown his true colours like that, who Tkachuk surely can't beat physically in a fight, is to bide his time, and wait for opportunities to stick it to him well within the rules of the NHL, I say good for him and all this code bull #### can go right out the window because Kassian certainly proved he doesn't follow it himself.

Probably already posted, but liked Treliving's comments.
Quote:
“There’s really no guidance, to be perfectly honest,” Treliving told Sportsnet 590’s Hockey Central crew Thursday. “We want Matthew playing exactly the same way that he always does. And what that is is being, in my mind, one of the top impactful players in the league. He drives the bus for us on a lot of nights, he drags our group into games.
“… So, the guidance from us is, ‘Continue to be who you are. Continue to have the impact you have on the game and on our team,’ and we continue to follow his lead.”
“What’s bothered me about a lot of [it], I’m not a big fan of the talk in the media and all the rest of it, some of comments that have been made towards Matthew,” Treliving said. “Number one, we’ve got his back. I think there’s 30 other teams other than ours who would take him on their team in a New York second. And some of the crap, I guess would be the best way to put it, written or tweeted or talked about, I think is just that.
“This is a guy who has a big impact in the game, and does what he does better than most, or any, in the game right now. So we’ll continue to support him.”

St. Kassian? The annointed Zack himself? No....it cannot be so!!
We've been led to believe that the man cannot nor ever has done any wrong and that Tkachuk is the true villain here for....playing hockey?

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
I like the idea of the ‘Code’ but it is so hypocritical.
I don’t think there is a player from Bantam to the NHL, whose eyes don’t light up, when they see an opportunity to legally hit another player, regardless if his head is down or he’s not ‘expecting’ it.
Being obligated to fight a guy, because you took advantage of the opportunity is ridiculous.
Tkachuk should goad Kassian into a fight but not drop the gloves. Would be hilarious.
This would be amazing. I can't imagine what Kassian would do, but it would be nuts. Maybe go full Happy Gilmore? Take his skate off and try to stab Tkachuk with it.
