Also if we were in the East we would be fighting for a wildcard spot.

I love the Oiler fans with the horseshoe comments. They're the definition of that, and they're still the embarrassment of professional sports.

This gorgeous hit was called a trip...
Even Ray Ferraro was like "That's a great hit, it's not a penalty".

Damn disgrace. The ref who called that should be suspended and docked pay.

That was a very poorly officiated game, and not just for the Flames. I thought the Leafs got hosed too.
The goaltending tonight was marvellous on both ends, but especially from Rittich. I couldn’t believe a few of the saves he made tonight. He looks absolutely dialled in right now.
I’d love for the offence to get going again. I’m not too concerned yet as they’re winning a lot of the games, so their defensive play has been making up for it, but you can’t rely on 1-2 goals a game forever.

Two games in a row the Flames have gotten a penalty for a perfect, as legal as it gets, body-check. Like, how does everyone on the planet see this except for the few guys that count.
*cough cough*..Wideman...*cough.*. We all know whats going on, but goddamn I think we've been punished enough. It was like 50 years ago, and the ref involved was a known dumbass. Probably shouldn't have been working that or ANY games in the NHL. I agree these refs REALLY need to be taking more accountability. Whether it's the Wideman thing or they're just completely incompetent. To call that Bennett hit, right away is a suspendable/fireable offense. There's no way anyone involved in hockey should be that goddamn stupid and still have a job.

Flames are technically fighting for a wildcard spot in the west. The wildcard cutoff is basically the same in either conference.
Is the Pacific weak because it doesn't have a single dominant team running away with the division, or is it strong because it has 5 teams in a dead heat that could all make the playoffs?

Besides the all important 2 points that game may have also done us a favor for over there in the "trades" string. Not just here, but in the mainstream NHL press there is a ton of TO has offense/Calgary has defense trade talk.
I thought that game showed TO and their fans that as a matter of fact Calgary does have 6 good defensemen. TO simply never really got lengthy cycles going. All 6 of our guys were quick on pucks and the breakouts were pretty good. That game had to up Calgary's trade values a bit.
Still no authority but FWIW Nylander looked pretty good out there and Kapenan was "okay". You get what you pay for.

Probably right answer is mediocre, middle of the pack.
Like about 18 other bubble NHL teams.

Ward wasn't planned to be head coach here. Does that plan change if things continue to go positively for the team? Sure, but I would still be expecting them to get a guy for their plan beyond this season at some point.
|
Sure, but to think that Ward hasn’t implemented his own influence on this team is false. Only have to look as far as what he has done to the lines since being in charge

Is he the one telling them to pass D to D inside their own zone, wait until all the forwards are stationary at the far blue line, and then just turn the puck over?
No wonder the team isn’t scoring
Goalies are excellent. Team O is abysmal
