It's funny how clear it is that she rocked their boats hard with her statement there. Their response was weak and emanating butthurt with their suddenly super serious tones, and the fake, pretending not to be offended chuckle from maclean.

Preach, Leah.
I think that they were just as upset that a woman had the gall to address them in such a fashion. Leah Hextall is the best and should be Canada's new Ron MacLean, as the face of Hockey Night in Canada.
i think that she is freelancing and doing NCAA play by play right now.

One guy feeling validated with this whole media #### storm, is Kevin Lowe.
All the grovelling and shameless pandering and flat out sucking up to the media out east over the past decade or more (he hired coaches based on popularity in hockey circles, Eakins,Quinn/Renney hybrid), allowing full access, is finally coming to roost with media on his side, on hits that he knows are @00% fine. But he’s getting public relations thanks to the snakes who he’s gotten into bed with in exchange for inside info and an invitation to the Oilers golf tourney each year.
He’s had the local scribes under his thumb since the Sather days, but even those guys got mobilized late on Saturday night and whip fans into a foaming at the mouth frenzy. Usually that sort of mobilization is to trash a player or coach a few weeks before the fire them, to paint them in a bad light for the kool aid drinking fans to guzzle and place all the blame on another scapegoat.
This time it’s low level schlubs like Strudwick, And high profile (in the Oilers eyes, because he’s on TSN in Ferraro (my guess in Brent Sutter didn’t suck up to Ray when his son was in Red Deer) mobilized with their hot takes.
But when the coach of the team says it’s clear, no how matter how much spewing to the lowest common denominator and how much repeating for turn it into fact and makes it so, and the league has chimed in, this still wreaks of an unprofessional set of best writers ridiculously stopping to low level of journalism, even for them.

They seemed scared.
Like that Twilight Zone episode where the kid could read everyone's thoughts so everyone had to think only about good things or he would punish them.
This must be what it is like to work at SportsNet:

I think it's pretty telling that majority of the fans league wide and ex players are on kassians side on this one... I'll leave it at that.
This is a pathetic argument and as pathetic as the hypocrites that have been coming out of the woodwork complaining about Tkachuk's hits and then not fighting back vs Kassian. If these 2 players were switched off and Tkachuk was an Oiler, the same hacks who have been crying since Saturday night would have lauded his clean hits. Barca, if the Canucks would have actually drafted this kid, you'd be cheering his play as loudly as any Canucks fan. However, that is not the case. Both franchises passed on this kid and have been kicking themselves ever since.
For me, the idiot comments started with the hypocrites on the HNIC panel. They're so full of crap. Had that been McDavid throwing clean checks on the likes of Rinaldo or Lucic, it would have been over-the-top admiration to put it mildly. And imagine the outrage at anyone attempting to pound his head in? There would be calls for a lifetime ban and appearances in court. Wasn't it Burke who said players shouldn't have to fight for throwing clean bodychecks?
Frankly, I'm not going to rely on the masses out there in the social media universe to get my fix concerning issues. Let's not forget, there were plenty of people who called out Steve Moore after his incident with Bertuzzi, saying he should have dropped the gloves again in that game. That somehow it was his fault what happened to him. If you have a narrative, you'll find plenty of people to support your views. It's not difficult. That doesn't make it right.
In Saturday's game, Tkachuk played Kassian like a fiddle. Tkachuk knew Kassian would take a penalty at some point. Kassian is one of if not the biggest idiot in the league. 2 game suspension, what a bunch of BS. The NHL's DPS doesn't know what it's doing most of the time. That incident could have been a hell of a lot worse had that nutcase actually connected with his haymakers. I can see how this and the Lucic suspension deserve the same number of games. It's freakin' laughable, just like the idiotic and hypocritical comments from the peanut gallery. All hail the "code"...

Tkachuk doesn't pull hair, bite fingers, kick, or ball punch enough for Canuck fans to like.
Just think, those comments came from a fan of a team that honours Alexander Burrows.

Like Kassian tried to do in the third period, and Tkachuk sidestepped him.
Kassian is not smart enough to target someone. All he will do is play out of position. It will be like they are playing partially short handed because he will be trying to run Tkachuk all game. Win win.
I think it's pretty telling that majority of the fans league wide and ex players are on kassians side on this one... I'll leave it at that.
Indeed. Most NHL fans and former players are no better at moving past the embarrassingly antiquated “Code” than the cringe-worthy HNIC Panel from Saturday night.

One thing that is lost in all this, Tkachuk was hitting Kassian. Not McAvi. Not Rai. Not RNH.
He was hitting Kassian. Who, by his own admission, loves that part of the game.
The people in Edmonton and even some in the media say maybe Edmonton should target Johnny. That is not the same. That is not apples to apples. If Edmonton wants revenge, feel free to target Lucic.
Exactly this. Incredibly frustrating to listen to.
Tkachuk went for the goon (within the rules of the game) , who is larger than himself.

At the end of the day, when the NHL starts preaching that they give a crap about player safety or about head injuries I'm just going to laugh. They had a chance to throw the book at a player that pretty much suckered MT and then threw punches at a vulnerable player on the ice. Then gave him a weak slap on the wrist and made sure that a guy who made a threat to hit a player in a vulnerable position in the next game would be in the lineup.
Player safety department my arse.
If the incident had happened to a guy like Mcdavid or Gaudreau then absolutely the book would have been thrown at Kassian.
The thing is, everyone thought that Tkachuk deserved it. Tkachuk has been suspended, and constantly does dumb stuff like the hit on Dach in Chicago after the Flames scored.
The league probably doesn't want to send too much encouragement to a guy who is also a threat to player safety.

No. Everyone did not think that Tkachuk deserved it. And even if they did this does not constitute a justifiable action.

Yes, that was absolutely cringeworthy.
I am with Brian Burke on this. I really detest the idea of a player having to fight for delivering a clean hit.

isn’t the dumba fight after him chasing dumba around the ice trying to make him answer the bell for a clean hit on Backlund the previous game?
"chased"
Pretty interesting though. This was the game after the Backlund hit happened. This is the "answering the bell" that some of you speak so highly of. The next game. And that's acceptable here, but apparently wasn't okay for Tkachuk to wait.
Interesting.

I’m serious here, this guy is the worst colour guy.
I'm late to the party, but he is also generally a bad person. Lots of people from Trail can stand him, or his snotty kid either. I've said it before, and I'll stand by it. Ray Ferraro sucks.

The main point though is that I believe the suspension for Kassian would have been longer if something like this happened to a player that isn't on player safety's radar.
Tkachuk is the smartest guy in hockey. Why did he pick Kassian to target? He could have gone after the tenderness or one of the great duo? He picked Kassian because he knew he would blow up at some point and he'd earn some powerplay time for his club and Kassian would look like an idiot in the end.
Bingo. That's what happens.
There is no other way to explain why he goes after Kassian. It is not like he is some great player that he needs to get off his game.
