To be fair to Dellow he didn't really state it as much that Hamilton was carrying Gio - but more that Hamilton was better than Brodie so the pairing as a whole looked better and maybe Gio wasn't carrying as much of the load. The exact tweet was:

I have a pet theory that Mark Giordano actually has aged, we just couldn't tell because Hamilton was an upgrade on Brodie.
I'll be honest that I was a bit concerned too that maybe that pairing that was carried by Gio for the first year or so they were together had actually become more of an equal pairing between Gio and Hamilton by the end of last year.

Very happy to say that any evidence of that being remotely the case is 100% gone.

Perhaps Tyler Dellow should have a pet rock.

The way I am approaching this season, the Flames need to win 6/10 games (or obtain 12 points with OT losses). This will give them 98 points and hopefully a comfortable spot in the playoffs.

Games 0-10: 5-5-0 (10/12 points) -- Need to make up 2 points
Games 10-20: 2-0-1 (5/12 points so far) -- To make up for the lost 2 points in the first segment, they now need 9 points in the remaining 7 games to get right on track. For example, 4-2-1 in the remaining 7 games is not too much of a stretch imo.

I'm gonna throw this out there.

If giordano keeps playing like this all year, he should be one of the norris finalists.

More appropriately he shouldn't be given a second thought nor any credence to the nonsense he writes...what so ever.

Same guy declared using fancy stats that...Ty Conklin was a better goaltender than Martin Brodeur. On this very board.

Think about that.

I've noticed a trend that American broadcasts tend to really focus on the celebration after a goal or win, where as Canadian (mostly Rogers) usually continuously switches shots in a horrible attempt to try to capture everything going on everywhere, including way too much time on the dejected losing team.

AC's video of Backlund's OT winner against Anaheim in the 2015 playoffs is a perfect example of one broadcaster (American) perfectly capturing the celebration and atmosphere, vs Rogers just dinking around from shot to shot, removing the viewer from the exciting moment.

Just curious, is this because you are a transplant living in Calgary or is there another reason you're such a big Flames supporter?

I'm a born and raised Calgarian. The Sabres thing is the weird part, lol. Started when I was a young teenager and wanted to cheer for some off the wall team, to be different or whatever (who knows, teenagers are weird). Just kind of grew from there. Liked the Flames before and after, but I guess just grew more of an identity as a Sabres fan.

They have had 11 flights and a bus ride, 13 games into the season.

They have played 8 on the road and 5 at home. And 3 of those 5 were 1st game back.

Also, the combined record of their opponents is: 84 - 51 - 16 (.609 WPG)

I've noticed a couple times last year during big post-game celebrations that Mike Smith will come over to Johnny and maul his head with his trapper - I think he is actually trying to take Johnny's helmet off.

I never mentioned it before because I thought it was just be exuberance, but now I see it again in the above clip, so I wonder if it's a thing?

AC, any chance you could look back at big wins and see if this is more than coincidence?

Canadian broadcasters show the coach while the team celebrates. I could careless to watch a coach while theres a team celebration.

It's not a blowout. Rittich made some great saves, especially early when the Flames were making bad turnovers.

Here were the expected goals:

Calgary - 2.65 (scored 2)
Buffalo - 2.02 (scored 1)

So yes, Calgary was the better team, but not by such a margin that it would have been a blowout if both teams got average goaltending.

Smith definitely likes to mug the OT goal scorer or other goalie, here are some great timestamps after various OT wins last year:

Smith giving Eddie Lack the business in Philly
Smith going after Monahan in Montreal
Smith jumping Monahan vs Chicago

Are those the expected goals based on a particular set of stats from this game?

I like that Rittich skated 200ft to smother Johnny's face with his glove

It's like they expect a pro coach to be blowing a gasket after a goal, instead of getting his team focussed and back into it. Or, if it's OT, he's headed off ice asap.

Bright futures for both teams coming into the 2018-19 season.

It's just a shame I will have to hate you in the Calgary Buffalo cup final this year
So true, they ( like most teams) have a better track record but similar for sure. Last 20 years:

Flames
7 Playoffs Appearances
1 Finals Appearance ( robbed)
1 Conference Finals Appearances
1 2nd Round
5 1st Round

Sabres
9 Playoffs Appearances
1 Finals Appearance ( robbed)
3 Conference Finals Appearances
2 2nd Round
3 1st Round
