I feel bad for celebrating a man's livelihood being taken from him and I take no pleasure in wanting him gone. I'm sure he tried his best to make things work. GG seems like a very intelligent man and I really do wish him the best and hope he can find a gig in the NHL somewhere. But it's pretty clear that a change was needed in order for the team to take the next step.
I just hope BT hits a home run with the next coach hiring. The roster still has some holes up front, but has a potentially great foundation on the backend. No way a team with a D like this on paper should be this bad. Let's hope the next coach can properly utilize them to their capabilities and we can all enjoy Flames hockey again.

As far as I am concerned, there is room for Gelinas. I don't care what job they give him, but he can stay. Just have him on the bench saying things like "good shift Johnny".
All good for me.

Same can be said for Sigalet. If he intended on keeping Gelinas the whole time, why not just make him interim in December and chance that things improve? Even individual production would have given BT a better idea of who to trade.

Sutter teams were genuinely proud to be a flame. His first big move was trading Drury for warrener and reinprect. Drury didn't want to be here and then he wasn't. It was that simple.
Guys like warrener, Gauthier, oliwa we're all proud to wear the Jersey. This team doesn't have that. The only players who have that are Gio and Backlund and stajan and Chuckie. Coincidence that three of those four are the only 3 players left on the roster that overlapped with Sutter

We need more speed in the lineup for sure. But there isn't a big lack of speed in the lineup. Tkachuk? No problem. Monahan? Not a speedster, but not a problem.
Stajan won't be back. I don't think Versteeg will be back. We'll see about Brouwer. The rest of the forwards have good speed aggregately. Add a couple young guys to replace the above, and the lineup has pretty good speed.
The D, overall, has pretty good speed.
Again, I don't buy that they are slow. IMO, they play slow.

Yeah, gonna have to agree here.
Craig Conroy said during a post-game interview during the 04 run that being traded to Calgary was initially a low point of his career. In other words, he didn't want to be here either. But what Sutter did foster was a system and a style that brought guys together. And once we began to have success, you saw guys like Conroy suddenly start to view Calgary as a high point in their careers.

I think Treliving was the Co-GM of the gold medal-winning 2016 Canadian team at the Men's worlds, when Peters was the HC.
Peters was a former Babcock assistant and seems to be highly regarded in coaching circles/Hockey Canada.
But I agree that this team needs to be more like Boston and Vegas - aggressive, fast, and uptempo. Not Gulutzan (and Babcock?) type of hockey. And get a guy who has proven to get their team to perform better than the sum of its parts.

Okay. Progress being made .
Is king next? Is Gelinas getting a promotion , is Conroy getting a promotion ?
Let's flip the switch Brad . Processes or not let's get some pieces of the puzzle back in place and find the right guys to work here.
Glen I do not believe was the biggest issue here. Just a part of the issue.
Thanks for your hard work Glen. Hope you land on your feet.

Kerr making a good point that regardless of coaches, the team still feels streaky overall and its fate depends on where those streaks take them and how they are timed. That feel with the team has carried over through a few coaches. So what needs to change?
It's clear from that we need someone to bring in consistency. Probably a coach that preaches work ethic and not getting too high or low (which lends to streakiness), along with the quick transition game that these guys have thrived on in the past. Something resembling the approach Gallant is taking in Vegas.

Vegas was streaky. It happened to be all winning streaks.

Completely agree... I truly believe that teams tend to take on the personality of their coach, or at least the messaging from the coach.
If we have a coach that preaches careful, 50-50 hockey, we will have more of the same as this season. I want a team that attacks, I want aggressive hockey (including involving the defence in the attacking zone... that should be our greatest strength) and I want speed on offence and defence.

See, that scares me. The last thing we need in an organization with a reputation for too much meddling from above is for the team to hire a coach who's the owner's guy and not the GM's guy.
