Also need the personnel to execute on that type of system. The Flames are too slow to play that style today so need to overhaul the team.

Gulutzan seems like a great guy and I wish him the best.
As for the potential replacements, I don't know much about Peters, and won't pretend to, but I will say this: I don't want a possession coach; I don't want a system like this last one where defense means backing up and filling lanes. I want a team that plays like Boston and Vegas. I want a team that attacks the puck carrier. I want a team that plays an up-tempo, aggressive style.
I don't know who that is, and I am sure I care. I just want a better playing style. I think that means AV, but I am open to seeing what plays out.

Boston and Vegas have possession coaches. Florida just didn't realize Gallant coached good possession hockey.

As far as the Trotz talk goes, I'm not sure he's the guy for this team. I was looking at a Caps blog yesterday at HockeyBuzz (yeah I know). Here's a snippet.
Quote:
Barrie Trotz is in competition with Randy Carlyle for the worst coach in the NHL, if you want my opinion.
He is brutal.
Trotz makes terrible decision after terrible decision and it makes following the Capitals extremely frustrating. Whether it's ignorance to the actual quality of play of Brooks Orpik, his ignorance regarding advanced stats and analytics, or his weird decisions to scratch good player or shove them far down in the lineup at the expense of terrible players like Chandler Stephenson and Devonte Smith-Pelly/ Half of what he does is inexplicable.

This is just from my head. But would Sutter be a Treliving hire or something ownership shoves down his throat? I'd be thinking that Sutter would be a vote of no confidence of the GM.
Or maybe not. I don't know but with Sutter being known to have strong ties still with Flames owners it's something to consider.

One thing for sure, we have no draft picks to play with. So, judging by BT's comment regarding players, there will be blood some big trades this summer.

I think there will be a Hamilton-like move on draft day again. Except at a forward position.

Possession coach is too general of a term. There are different styles that all get called possession systems.
I will try to be more clear: I hate a passive system and I hate slowing the play down. Gulutzan's system did both.
I want up-tempo. I want energy. I want fast paced.

I disagree with this. The Flames aren't a duper fast team. But they are also not a particularly slow team. Their style of play was slow. Their system was safe and slow. And boring.

No, its about results, and the players see it as that way as well. You want to see a recent record of success at the top of the resume.

I'd say 30/70. And that's enough for a coaching change. But I think we have other big problems.

From the sounds of things Treliving seems to agree. Think we're in for a wild summer.

Can someone please explain the Peters connection to the Flames? Past history with BT? What am I missing here? I don't see him as that great a fit in comparison to some other coaches who may be available

One does not simply eliminate the eliminator.....

I think Trotz was a very good coach for a long time in this league, but it really seems like the game has passed him by a bit and he hasn't adapted.

I guess the million dollar question is if the players can play a fast up tempo system. If they can't then you need to get some that can.
