Also, some of those penalties the flames took were cheap. Gulutzan should direct his anger at the refs more.

fair enough...they didn't get beat handily though. In fact they were the better team if we are being honest.

Sam Bennett is a mediocre at best NHL center.
Sam Bennett could be a very good NHL winger.
Mark Jankowski could be a very good NHL center.
Unfortunately we still can't get to see the latter 2 because Glen Gulutzan and staff are mediocre at best.
This team will never realize it's potential with GG 2.0 in charge.
For as much as Treliving gets a lot of love and has made a lot of good moves, you can't win in this league with subpar goaltending and/or coaching and the Flames have 1 or both of those sucking every year Tre has been in charge.

So far at home the Flames look like a lazy, dumb hockey team.
Penalties and no intensity for the majority of their games at home.

I considered making a hossa joke, but it was a serious response. Yes, they've been forced to get rid of some good players that I'm sure they would have liked to keep, but they've also effectively parted ways with players that could be replaced internally. They maybe haven't received the most value from some of the assets they're letting go in all situations, but there's also value in freeing up spots for your younger players so their development isn't hampered, I think.

I’m so tired of our coach behaving like a scared little baby. Show some ####ing emotion.
Ref makes a bad call, stop starring at the goddamn floor. Let them Know it. It’s too easy to make a call against the flames with ####ing Bambi behind the bench.

Unbelievable some of the calls the past 3 games though. I mean throughout the games too. Officials seem very happy to pin the Flames relentlessly for just about every questionable play it seems. Is the same standard being dealt the other way? Or are the Flames truly that undisciplined. I really don't know.

This was a game when the team was sleepwalking like they were they could really use a spark to get the team and the crowd into it.
Ferland used to be that guy, but not sure what happened to him but once again I forgot he was even playing. He's just not there anymore. Glass, Brouwer, would be nice to see them throw some weight around and try to get something going. If the team is going to take a handful of stupid penalties every game might as well use one of them on trying to get the team going.
Just a blah game. Not proactive enough. Smith was great again. Jagr looked better. Other than that, pretty boring.

Son, if you keep misbehaving there may have to start being consequences.
I don’t really care what he says to the press but I certainly hope the team is getting a stronger message.

Goaltending this year is masking similar problems that plagued the Flames at the start of last season. We can't keep relying on Smith to keep us in the game while we try to get our game back to the level it should be. Allowing close to 40 shots per game doesn't help either.
The Canes shouldn't be out skating us and they shouldn't be garnering most of the offence. We were sitting back and letting the Canes come to us as opposed to attacking them. We supposedly have this great transistion game but it's not working.

If Frolik or Brodie score on those open nets and the refs called the holding the stick instead of the roughing at the end of the 2nd we are talking about a win right now.
|
That is my interpretation of the game as well. We had chances to score first and also tie the game. Carolina was better but most of that was PP generated. We need to find away to get Johnny on for some of the PK in a game when he is not getting any rhythm. I am sure once he breaks a leg blocking a shot I will realize it was a bad idea. I am still not sure how good Darling is since he did not face the same quality of shots and Calgary can make goalies look good.

Well considering they had the puck for like 95% of the game, not much need to hook/trip/slash

For the love of God, move Bennett to the wing and call up Janko. Bennett lacks the hockey sense to be an effective center. Waive glass or Hamilton and ice Bennett-janko-Ferland and Versteeg-Stajan-Brouwer.
Next fire Bart to the moon and let Kulak play.
Seriously, for @&$)'s sake, it's not rocket science GG.

Last rant
Also Bennett has been awful but the difference between missing and making the playoffs for these playoffs is going to be minimizing the negative impact of the AHLers that somehow draw NHL paycheques. That's all the Flames will need to do to make the playoffs. They have the talent and a passable system.
The difference beween the Flames being an also-ran and a contender will be Bennett breaking out into an impact player. Only Gaudreau and Backlund can make their own offense and that's not enough to contend imo. Just one more threat would add such an extra dimension to this team.
It's easy to criticize Bennett because he's been bad but fixing that is not easy. Heck it might never get fixed, he might stink forever. But fixing the bottom of the roster could be done literally over frickin night and it would make a huge difference to this team.

Man, it's not just wins=system worked, losses=system wasn't executed. This excuses the possibility the system itself isn't good.

The Flames need to do something about the third pairing. Well, they needed to do something about it six games ago, but still.
Time to free Kulak and free Jankowski.

Can we send Bennett to the AHL without him passing waivers? If so, it’s time to give him a
Dose of tough love.

The system looks like no fun to play, is perimeter based, is highly predictable, and is never adjusted in-game. Nor are lines matched very effectively.
Coaching is an issue with this team.
