Welp, I guess I'm pretty glad I've been travelling the South Island of NZ in a van and haven't had cell service for the entire series

Oh for cr................
You know goaltending plays a pretty big part of a team's success no?

Really disappointed obviously but this series highlighted a few important things.
Negatives:
- Johnny can't lead a team upfront. Just buttery soft.
- For the love of god please do something about the goaltending. Goodbye Elliott!
- As good as the 3M line was all year they aren't a 2nd line. Perfect 3rd line but do not have the offensive capabilities to be a true 2nd line.
- GG looked like a completely amateur. Randy took him to the woodshed this series.
- The 3rd and 4th line needs a lot of work. To many passengers (Brouwer, Bouma).
Positives:
- Really pleased with Monahan. Ya 5 on 5 he didn't score but he goes to the hard areas, he battled, he improved in the face-off circle. If Gaudreau wasn't so bad, he would have done a lot better 5 on 5.
- Bennett showed a lot of guts. He may not turn into the offensive powerhouse you'd expect from a 4th overall pick but his game is built for playoff hockey. Love his tenacity and grit.
- Stone probably the best of the top 4 dmen. Has a heavy shot and plays a simple brand of hockey. I'm not sure why GG decided not to put him on the ice for the last 4 minutes of the game when he is the only dman capable of getting a puck hard and through on net.
- Versteeg, get this guy signed. You can tell he knows how to get it done in the playoffs. Probably our best forward in the series and thats no slight on him or anybody else. He is a stanley cup champ.

It came down to goaltending, Ducks goalie was really good
Flames starter was really poor.
Flames overall played quite well.

Toronto got th first overall pick and a generational talent. Same with Edmonton. You can't compare them to the Flames. Ottawa is a better comparison.
Edmonton doesn't make the playoffs without Mcdavid. Without him, none of them other role pieces would have signed there.

Each game...Flames beat themselves.
Tonight, Elliott should have had that.
Lazar should have had a tap in.
Flames win 2 -1. Sweep ducks in 4.

Frankly, if we even had only the second worst goaltending out of all the playoff teams, this series is tied or we are up 3-1.
Can't overreact. Young core not yet in their prime, and outplayed the division winners for the vast majority of the series.
It's hard to even evaluate the performances of the rest of the team, because the goaltending was so bad.
Average goaltending and even bounces, and we are probably the ones shaking their hands and going to the second round.

In game 3, you can't really fault Elliott for the high-stick non-goal. Maybe you pull Elliott after the game tying goal but by then the whole team was deflated so I don't think the Flames win it in OT even if Johnson was in net.
I don't think Johnson leads this team to 4 straight wins even if he had started this game.
Bottom line, Elliott defecated the bed when his team needed him to make some key saves, and he cost the team a chance to get back into the series.
Gulutzan couldn't get the most out of his players in the rs nor in the playoffs. That's why this team stumbled to a 7th place finish in the conference and got a terrible matchup in the first round, and it's why the Flames are the first team to be bounced from the playoffs this year.

neither is Brian Elliott

And all this Gaudreau hate is ridiculous. He didn't have a great series but he was playing with Ferland. Ferland had a pretty crappy series after the 1st game. And Monahan wasn't that much better 5 on 5.
This almost Marc Savard like. You will totally regret it when Gaudreau is gone!

I hate to say it... this goes against every fibre of my being, especially living in Toronto...
But... the Leafs are by far the most enjoyable underdog story. They are fun as hell to watch, are overachieving across the board, and all the players that I really hated them for ( Kessel, Phaneuf, etc ) are long gone. Plus unlike the Oils, they didn't fail their way to success.
Really it's only their legion of idiot fans and the upper office that I can bring myself to hate.
For the first time in history, I may actually cheer on a Leafs team.

Yep, we lost the series.
I liked the improvements in several players. I hate Kesler. Getzlaf is awesome. Monahan learned a lot from them I hope. Bennett showed many improvements; the kid is a gamer and just needs time. Versteeg...not so much improvements but he can teach the youngsters so much. Ferland wasn't used to the best of his abilities; he showed a lot more talent than many give him credit for.

The jets probably said the same 2 years ago after these same ducks came out of nowhere each game that they shoulda lost only to get swept. Excuses. This team lack the balls to out will the ducks. bad goaltending and ability to generate next to nothing 5 on 5 (Not enough skill).

Thankfully I believe the management is smarter than the fanbase this time around.

I wouldn't worry about it.
The team and management are in no way as stupid, impatient and devoid of context as the contingent of posters on here pushing that narrative.
Like the rest of the core, he's still a young player.
