Zone starts likely play a role too:
2014-15 - OZ Starts 47.4%
2015-16 - OZ Starts 55.3%
2016-17 - OZ Starts 63.0%
But regardless of that, I think he looks like he's pushing play north far better than before. His zone exits and puck carrying through the neutral zone have improved drastically IMO. If he can be a bit more assertive when gaining the zone I think his possession game will really take off.
