Does he have that drive though.
Yea, one of my good friends is a Bruins fan and he said Connolly is a "useless bum" and that he's glad he's not coming back.

I agree Conolly would be a good addition but I'd warn from getting too hyped up. He spent a lot of time with Bergeron.

Didn't think I was getting hyped up at all. "Slight upgrade" over Jooris is hype?

To clarify, I was referring to Brett Connolly's amazing HERO chart in case anyone goes and looks it up. It's pretty on the right side. Because it's Patrice Bergeron's hero chart.

Advanced stats are your bag man. I do not prescribe to those. 25 points in 71 gp is only marginally better than Jooris' 13 points in 59 gp. Maybe less if thats all he could muster with Bergeron. So it could only be a lateral move.

So if he walks for nothing what will you think of Treliving? There's still a chance he signs but there's also a chance he doesn't sign and becomes a UFA.

I know him not being qualified doesn't mean he walks for nothing but it's a very good chance that scenario plays out. And letting him walk for nothing isn't madness, we are talking about Joe Colborne not some player with super high trade value or anything like that. Him walking isn't madness, it's the posters who overrate players like Colborne that is madness.

It's really NBD and people fixating on his 40 points are missing that he didn't impact the game like a 40 point forward (i.e. like Backlund, Frolik, Bennett, Hudler, did). We keep him cheap, sweet. We lose him, we still have the depth to weather it. Here are our left shot wingers who could all make the team next year:

Gaudreau
Frolik
Tkachuk
Shinkaruk
Stajan if Grant, Jooris or Hamilton is 4C
Bouma
Ferland

+
Raymond
Klimchuk
Poirier
Mangiapane

who we all want pushing for spot.

Not sure what you're looking for... I'll think he's doing a fine job? If they don't sign him it's because he's getting paid too much by another team.

My post was in response to people who didn't want him qualified OR signed, period. As in, would rather no Colborne than one Colborne.

Making no attempt to keep him would have been complete madness. I don't see many people overrating him but he's a hard player to replace (current skill level, entering prime) at 2-2.5 million. Heck, you might not even be able to replace Colborne with Colborne at 2.5. We'll see.

So.... lots of talk about Freddie Hamilton in this thread and he's not mentioned in the Flames release. Did he not need to be qualified?

After Devante Smith-Pelly was traded to the Devils he went on to score 13pts in 18gp, including 8 goals. Which is a 59pts pace. If we're looking for RW DSP might be a worthy option for $800-950k.

I'd be over the moon with him. Just scratching the surface of his potential and he can play anywhere in the lineup

Think anyone will take a flyer on Hodgson?? Former 10th overall, just a few seasons removed from 20/20. I could see a team lacking center depth taking a chance on him, still only 25 yo and already has 328 games played with 142 points posted.

If I was Edmonton I'd be all over Wiercioch, they need any sort of help on D that they can get and he could step into a bottom pairing role for them easily and isn't completely inexperienced with 200 + games under his belt.

I was surprised, but thinking on Colborne I can see the sense.

The way I see it is he is still going to arbitration after a fashion. It's just now the free market sets the cost, and Flames can walk for a lot less than 3.6 million.
This also avoids the hard feeling that can come of a hearing.

I really hope we don't lose Joe, but I can see the reasoning.

Just a nitpick, but how is "the free market sets the cost" similar to arbitration in any way?

An arbitrator decides the salary. The market decides the salary.... Too obvious?

Oh boy. So, if trial by combat or a random number generator decided the salary, that would also be, in your view, "arbitration after a fashion". Good to know.
