I was wondering what they were going to do with Granlund. He was underwhelming in the NHL but too good for the AHL. With his being eligible for waivers next season I had a sneaking feeling that he'd be included in a trade, not this type of deal though. I was going to guess that he'd be moved in a deal for a goalie at the deadline on our show that we're recording in a half hour.
Getting Shinkaruk is okay I guess. I haven't really followed him much in the last couple seasons since his draft. I'll be watching him closely in Stockton over the next few games to be able to give a better opinion. At least it resets the clock back for 2 seasons in terms of development which is good. Possible that this is a winning trade for Calgary, or that it's a trade that doesn't work out. Either way we'll see.

Brad states Granlund didn't fit in our roster plans with the pile at center, and we got most likely one of the best outcomes for him considering he no longer fit in our roster.

Given all the things that came out about his attitude around the time of the draft, and which seemed to have some basis in reality given he was chosen far later in the draft compared to his then apparent talent level and scouting ranking, I'm not excited about this trade. That being said, it could work out. I will watch Shinkaruk with little expectation and will be pleasantly surprised if he turns into something at the NHL level.

Yeah this was good asset management on Brad's part.
But I'm not ready to applaud him until he addresses the crater of a situation in goal and has a strong draft, hopefully adding that elusive RW.

Flames deal from an area of strength to address an area of weakness - I like it.
Granlund was a hard worker with a good attitude while Shinkaruk has a reputation of being a prima donna amongst other attitude issues - I don't like it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see neither guy make much of an impression in the NHL, and for both players to be in Europe 5 years from now - I meh it.

Bit of a meh trade from the Flames' perspective, puzzling one from the canucks' perspective.
Flames figured Granlund has more or less hit his ceiling, and Shinkaruk maybe hasn't yet. Two years added roster flexibility makes this a win.

Wouldn't put too much stock in canucks fans melting down. They don't watch any hockey aside from their own team. Clueless about other teams' players and hugely overrate their own.

Farewell to Granlund! Pretty good second round pick and not bad at hockey. Liked him, but didn't see a future for him here, so any return is pretty good.

It's always interesting to get another prospect but this trade is basically treading water. I was still hopeful that Granlund would continue to improve and make one of our veteran centers expendable, freeing up some cap money and perhaps yielding a bigger return.

Granlund wasn't/isn't gonna be much of an NHLer. Flames were pumping him up with great zone starts and he struggled mightily.
Adios Granlund, you will not be missed.

I was fairly meh about this to start. I didn't like the things I had heard about Shinkaruk around the time of his draft. On the other hand, I don't think Granlund is much more than a tweener with 3rd line upside at best.
But after reading part of the meltdown from Canuck fans over this, I'm 100% on board! That was schadenfreude gold!

			Kylington, pronounced shilington
 Shinkaruk must be spelled kylinkaruk

 Kylinkaruk is it!

The downside of this trade is that we're likely to see more of Bollig on the left wing.
I liked it better when Bennett was on left wing, Granlund at centre, and Bollig in the press box.

TSN trade tracker (http://www.tsn.ca/tradecentre/trade-tracker ) has Calgary winning this trade 2K votes to 663.

So there you go...

What is up with Treliving trading our young guys to Vancouver the last two seasons? I just can't stand hating players that I used to like. First, it was Baertschi and now Granlund?? Maybe Benning saw how well Granlund and Baertschi played together in Abbotsford and hoping these two will create the same magic in the NHL. Funny thing though, Flames fans who really hated Skinkaruk is coming back on the trade.
