Sounds like Bruins expected an offer sheet from Oilers, took the best deal available and just took off from there? Still though you'd expect them to get a better deal from the Oilers (16th, 33rd, 57th) but I guess a giant FU to Chia was more valuable.

As McKenize said, the return is a bit better then the offer sheet, which BOS likley seemed to have a pretty good idea was coming (likely from the Oilers) and the only option that was left.
Rather then the shame of having their former GM take a player away from them, trade him instead for a marginal upgrade. And, trade him to that team's rival for good measure.
|
That still doesn't explain why no other teams didn't come in over the top.
You'd think a team like Philly or Colorado or a number of others could have made a better offer.
It's pretty puzzling.

Hard to say it's a steal for the Flames seeing we don't have any idea what will come of the three draft picks but I feel Hamilton has a much higher chance at being better than any of the players available at 15. As for the 2nd rounders they are the wildcards as the Bruins could find a diamond in the rough. Overall I like the deal because it addresses the organizations biggest need.

Essentially Glencross and a 1st for Hamilton.
I didn't think we could one-up today's US Supreme Court ruling, but, well, here we are.

Chiarelli could still give Hamilton an offer sheet. So Flames may be forced to match at ~$6M for him assuming Chia doesn't go nuts and offer $9M+.

Krug and Hamilton looked like the perfect pair to rebuild around...this is baffling to me.

These little pithy posts are great.

Very happy with this deal for many obvious reasons. There will always be a part of me that would have loved to have seen the Flames still have the first and two seconds and eventually see how those players turned out but this is absolutely the right move for the Flames. They address a glaring need by acquiring a young, proven asset. There are times when teams are in a position to deal picks and the Flames are absolutely in that position. They have a great crop of young players and to add a fantastic 22 year old defenseman to the team is truly ideal.

Boston Media starting to slam Hamilton now, they are such puppets for their team
did it for Seguin, do it for Red Sox/Pats players too

As noted here this morn, Bruins must have concern over essential element of Hamilton's game.

Bruins were also offered much higher first rounders than 15th overall, which adds to strangeness of the trade.

Negative: We don't get to see draft picks.
Positive: We get to ice Dougie Hamilton

I can't even believe this happened! Flames wanted to add size and they sure as f@@@ did that!!! Going to make such a huge difference having this guy on the ice for 25-30 min a night clearing space for our forwards and racking up points himself. Wow. We just became a much bigger threat in the west!
Stunned and loving it!
