Iggy probably didn't want the puck, but players will second guess now that he is there. It isn't his fault, but the entire organization and fans want Iggy to light it up one last time.
None of this happens if the Flames move on. Iggy hopefully gets everything he wants, as I respect him a ton. I just know the circus we got out of a few years ago, and to invite that back is not smart. The circus isn't his fault, it is ours, but none the less it is reality and we have to realize it. Win or Iggy, not both.

That's not an example, it's a ficticious scenario.
I could just as easily create an example where Monahan makes that pass, Iginla puts it in the back of the net his 7th goal that game and win the Stanley Cup!
None of this happens if the Flames move on....

Maybe you can email Brian Burke that and tell him he is wrong so he won't guide the Flames in that direct then. His email is probably bburke@calgaryflames.com
Good luck

I think Burke's problem is that he thinks that "plumbers" can only be big grinders. Plumbers can also be hardworking speedy players that are overlooked by other teams and cause havok in the other teams zone IMO. Look at the bottom 6 of Chicago, TB and Detroit, none of these bottom 6 are necessarily huge but they have guys like Kruger, Saad, Tatar that can run around and cause havok in the enemy territory and keep the play out of our end.

In theory, if we could get a 20 goal/50 point RW like Iginla, I would do it... post-apex or not.
I just have trouble seeing him as being able to be a 2nd fiddle on this team. This is Giordano's, Hudler's and Monahan's team now and I would hate to see that dynamic messed with.

That really isn't true given how he GM'ed Vancouver and Toronto, and how he picked Team USA.
The one thing that Burke had said was, in a playoff series of 4 rounds, you are going to meet a big physical team, a fast team, a skilled team, and probably a team that posses a mix of all 3 of those trains; and your team has to beat all 4 teams to be able to win a cup. His belief isn't that you can't have small skilled players, small skilled grinders or anything about size in particular; but, as Treliving did alude to in the season's post-mortem, the team played noticeably bigger when Bouma and Ferland came back. Treliving also said you can't have size simply by inserting guys with physical dimensions, the game doesn't work that way - the game is so fast now, you have to be able to skate and make plays, and that has to be key. Which, to make this thread go full circle, any part of bringing Iginla back is that he would have to fit what this team needs to win a cup and those traits that Burke/Treliving talked about in the previous year and the post-mortem, and that probably won't be a PP specialist (doubt we even need one at all) or any nostalgic reasons - it would have to be a hockey addition where he comes in and contributes something fitting of the role accordingly.

I think Burke's comments when comparing the Olympic rosters was a PR tactic. He knew that he could never ice a lineup even remotely as deep as Team Canada, so he compensated in the media with this "artists" v. "plumbers" nonsense.

This is where there seem to be a lot of knuckleheads giving opinions.
Iggy brings a lot of these dimensions. Can play any game. Look at his season in Boston. Won the city over with the physical game and fights early, back checked very well, and put up another 30. He was the top line RW, no debate, left and Lucix wiltered, and Boston missed the playoffs.
Guy is a hall of famer with above average ability in enough areas to make him elite. And CP is comparing him with Bollig. Silly.

Seriously?

the good old days of making it past the first round one time in his entire tenure...the guy missing Iggy on the 5 on 3 PP in game four obviously didn't see much of the Flames and Iggy in the playoffs because their powerplay was TURRIBLE (13%) in 04 when Iggy was in his absolute prime
Iggy was a great player for the Flames but people quickly forget more often than not the team with him on it was a massive letdown save for one season

I would only bring Iggy back if we brought Regehr back at the same time. That way they could re-create that garbage bag day magic where Reggie talked about how there needed to be a broader team commitment to defence and Iggy could say everything was fine and nothing to see here. Those are the hockey memories of my twenties. Good times.

He already is a "2nd fiddle" role in Colorado and he appears to be thriving in his support position.

I hope if we are picking up Iggy in this scenario he is nothing more than a 10 minute 4th liner that scores 10 goals and maybe hits 30pts. I would love for him to be a factor in the playoffs win a cup here and retire

Not really. He led the Avs in scoring and PP time out of all forwards, and he had the most ice-time per game out of any RW on his team. Only Monahan on the Flames had more ice-time than Iginla did on the Avs.
I think the intention at the beginning of the season was to have Iginla being a secondary player, but as the season went on they really leaned on him and he took a central role.

I did. I thought him and Tanguay might look quite a bit better than our current second line when we were playing the Avs.

This comment was done in a university classroom, not a media conference. I believe it was also done >1 year after the Olympics... can't see why it would be a PR tactic.
Also, the previous Olympics, Team Canada had Kirk Maltby and Kris Draper on their Team Canada, so its not like it was a foreign concept either.
