Why are we talking about the 17-18 season while ignoring the elephant in the room that is 21-22 season?

iggy is likely #1 all time for declining to play for team caanda at the world hockey championship.

iggy coming back to win the cup here is a nice story, but likely will not happen

For the people who say absolutely no, why talk in such definitive terms? If the situation is right and the Flames had an opportunity to, why not explore that option? UFAs are a free asset. If he turns out to produce similarly like Jagr, then I don't see why that'd be a bad thing. Even if the Flames end up tanking that season, you can always trade him for assets at the trade deadline.

Because this team definitely got better after he left.
Because this teams culture definitely struggled before he left.
Because this team definitely focused on helping Iggy get to 30 goals and not getting to the playoffs.
Because him coming back will definitely change team chemistry in a way no other comparable player would. Iggy would definitely become a focus again.

This is everyones show not just Iggys now. I think that works best for everyone including him. Honestly, did you watch a single minute this year and say...if only we had Iggy? I definitely didn't

Nope, but I did wish we had another 30 goal scorer on the 2nd line.

hey can score 25-30 in a top six role and not playing very well in his own end

28+ goal scorer for 15 straight seasons. Played as good and in some cases, better than young studs on his team such as MacKinnon, Duchene, Landeskog and O'Reilly.

I'm not suggesting we bring him back, but he would be a legitimate second line right winger on this team, something we desperately need.

I'm sure Iggy would be perfectly content with stepping into our dressing room and not being a leader. He knows the guard has changed and our youngsters will continue to look up to their current captains and leaders, not a guy they have never played with before.

He doesn't have to be the focus, nor do I think that's what he would want. Our culture changed, it's not "his" team anymore, it's Gio's

It's funny how ppl here talk of Iggy as the bottom six because he would push some of the top 6 in the current Flames top 6 totally out of the lineup altogether. Iggy wouldn't still be a top six player still if he's as frickin slow as what some of you are saying. I'm sure a lot of you Iggy-haters out there are really joyous that he barely missed the 30-goal mark that he puts out consistently just to prove that he's too old and over the hill. C'mon, what gives? He's proven time and time again that he is an elite power forward right winger. How many right wing power forwards does the Flames currently have?

Sounds like he's talking about current Iginla to me.

Besides Bouma and Backlund, name another Flames that played well in his own zone last season and in the playoffs.

again this scenario is in two more years...most of us expect the Flames to be better than they are now and Iggy to be on the decline.

guy still has the shot but the fact is he isn't very fast and doesn't play well in his own end, will be worse in two years. Hater? no realist maybe

I hope the team has better options at that point

Its hilarious that people want to attribute the change in team dynamic to some sort of leadership or cultural issues with Iggy. The guy was always a fantastic leader and Gio is pretty much doing the exact same thing now that Iggy did at his best.

The bigger factor for the cultural turnaround of the team is the following:

- New President, GM, and organizational focus on youth
- Good drafting, and picks that can actually step into the league play
- Great coaching.

These are all far greater factors to the team success and they were all out of Iginla's sphere of influence.

I don't understand the stat in the topic title. 7th all-time for what? How is Ovechkin ahead of him?

I love Iginla's day as a Flame as much as the next guy, but those days are over. He's never coming back to play for the team. It's over.
