Good hire. Thread title could use an upgrade from rumour.

I think the audio will be fixed. I agree with some others that it was done so Kerr could keep up. Man was that ever bush league though.

As far as I know there's an audio delay for every PBP broadcast in the NHL because of the speed of the game. Either Kerr was too quick or the delay was too much.

Remember when Roger Millions posted this in February 2012?

So Sportsnet knew about the issue, and didn't bother to fix it for years. If its still an issue this season I'll lose my mind.

Hope you guys like Ball. I've worked him for last ten years and he is one of the best. Great broadcaster all around, funny, very quick when things are thrown at him and is always well prepared. Worked numerous Lions and Canucks games beside him and was always amazed by his professionalism. Baller is just a stand up broadcaster.

He's also a really good guy. Wealth of knowledge when it comes to pop culture as well, so expect the odd reference here or there.

He will be excellent in this new role.

Rick Ball was exactly who I was hoping for. Excellent hire.

He was excellent on CBC last year when calling Flames games. Such an upgrade.

I was fine when people were saying Mark Lee was our guy, but Rick Ball is much better in my opinion. This season will be a treat compared to Kerr/Simmer.

Here is the Sportsnet press release:

http://www.sportsnet.ca/healy-hrudey...portsnet-team/

I knew we wouldn't be able to get rid of Healy, yuck!

Kelly Hrudey, Analyst – The popular Gemini Award winning broadcaster and former NHL goalie will serve as a game analyst for Flames regional games, as well as a studio analyst for NHL national games

Rick Ball, Play-by-Play Announcer (Calgary Flames broadcasts) – The 20-year veteran broadcaster hits the broadcast booth in Calgary to call Flames games alongside Hrudey. In addition to working with CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada the last three seasons, Ball has also been the radio voice for the Vancouver Canucks for six years, and was the first play-by-play voice of the Kelowna Rockets

Great news all around except for Healey. Man that guy just...ugh.

Also importantly....who's notably left off the list? Mackenzie? Dreger? Duthie?

EDIT: Also Craig Simpson is a bit of a dingbat, but so be it.

all 3 signed new deals after Rogers got the NHL package to stay at TSN

they still have something like 140 regional games for the Leafs/Jets/Habs

Randorf went, too. He is good as well.

Though arguably the 2 best PBP guys in the business will be stuck at TSN calling regional games.

Though it's pretty amazing that the Flames went from probably the worst commentary team to arguably the best.

Ball/Hrudey/Rog makes me giddy to start the season.
