I'm happy with this move. Wish the best to Feaster, I think he tried his best while he was here but he was the victim of circumstance and in over his head.
Weisbrod will land on his feet. I don't get the love he got from the fanbase.

I look at that Leafs team.......and I'm scared for my Flames.
Had to buy out Komisarek
Had yo buy out Grabovski
Liles is likely needing a buy out soon as well.
Still not a very strong team in the weak East.
Thought things were going well with our rebuild so far.
Hope I shouldn't be, but I am worried.

I don't know about that one. Bourque was playing at a pace of 35 points with 4 and half years left on his deal, he wasn't a hot commodity. The second ended up being pretty high obviously but it wasn't even that year's draft pick but the year after so it was of limited and unsure of value at the time. It sucks in retrospect giving it up but you could probably recoup that with whatever Cammalleri gets at the deadline. Bourque has 28 points with the Canadiens since the trade so I think that's close to crying over spilled milk.

It's weird, I have the sudden urge to defend Feaster even though I'm 50/50 on my views of him at best.

Strange. I'm not a huge Feaster fan but at least he has committed to a rebuild and has stuck to the plan. In his first couple of years he was pretty much saddled with the Sutter-era mess.

Now for some completely baseless speculation... with the Bruin's recent trip to the dome some light was shed on the Iginla trade flub that sealed Feaster's faith.
Some one from the Bruin's side met with Burke/King and provided some info on the "we were told we had won the Iginla sweepstakes" comment made at the press conference.

Not really. The Canucks weren't great under him. He did put the final touches on a Ducks team that his predecessor built, and the Leafs are looking more and more like last year was a fluke.
Burke's history of building winning teams is pretty much a myth.

WTF.
I don't think either deserved to be let go with their recent work. If Burke decides to take over as G.M. I'll be pissed. Basically lied to everyone in all the pressers. I am really hoping that they have a better G.M. candidate ready to be hired. I'd rather Burke stay in his president's role.

Feaster I almost expected just not so soon, summer maybe or into next season. Weisbrod is a shocker for sure although I would bet if Burke gets the job it would have become almost necessary to move out Weisbrod to implement his philosophy on the team.

burke is a gm to take a ok team and make them great (see anaheim). I think he's just not patient enough for a rebuilding franchise.
Also, i think people need to judge feaster from last year's deadline onwards. Before that this franchise was blindly set in trying to make the playoff mandates.
Since the decision to rebuild was taken, i thought every move made has been a positive step for this franchise.

I think it was mainly hope turned into facts by many people.
The fans wanted to believe that there was someone who could make this rebuild much faster/better than what we have seen from other teams and Weisbrod didn't have the terrible record that a Feaster did (he had very little record actually.) Throw in the Boston connection that many seemed to ignore the facts on and attribute a lot of their success to him and it is easy to see how the Weisbrod myth kind of steamrolled into something a lot more than it ever appears he was.
