Burke is from Boston and has a ton of connections at USA hockey, I'm hoping this means that he's high on Gaudreau or at least is aware of the kids potential.
I do think Sven might get moved though. It could have been Burke wanted Sven moved and Feaster/Weisbrods didn't want to.
I don't think that just because Burke doesn't like one small player (Sven), that he's going to move all small players (Gaudreau).

The freeze seems more of a precaution against Feaster making any Sutter-style desperation moves as the axe was hoisted.

Our Farm team is in 1st place in the AHL. It has 7 guys with 20+ points, next best team has 3. I thought the rebuild was going pretty smoothly and things were finally starting to pay off for those two.

Not exactly a consistent message there, not a fan of the timing at all.

Isn't this a few days after the roster freeze? Not like he called them up on Christmas eve.
Plus I think the roster freeze is so guys aren't moving/away from family at Christmas in their new city. Feaster and Weisbrod aren't going to be joining new teams tomorrow so should be fine to stick around Calgary and be with their families.

Other than that, what bad moves has he made recently? Most of his recent trades, right back to last season have been solid. He brought in Russell, Colborne, got rid of Jackman for a younger, better player... He's been doing fine since he embraced the rebuild.
|
This is pretty standard fare for all the Feaster backers - Ignore what has happened the last 3 years and start fresh with a magical new slate. Glad Burke didn't do this and the correct decision was made.

Very surprised by the timing of this, what does it serve for the Flames? Hopefully we get some answers at the press conference. Also hope Conroys job isn't on the line now. Just cause I like the guy.

Yeah, it's quite ridiculous how much the Weisbrod mystique has snowballed. Our drafting certainly looks like it's improved lately, but is that a product of a guy like Weisbrod or the removal of Darryl Sutter's control over the team? It's almost impossible for the common fan to know.

I just don't see Feaster as having done anything above average. Ever. He's filled holes without much thought and created them without much thought either.

fair enough.
The timing just seems odd to me. feaster being the longterm guy aside, you'd think this could have waited.

Wow I'm kind of surprised especially about Weisbrod, I think Feaster and him had done a lot of investing in scouting and it seemed like they were very quickly turning around the prospect pool
I think Feaster had done a decent job in the trade market this year especially for getting Colborne for a pile of magic beans.
I wonder if there was friction in the front office because of Burke coming aboard and burke winning the battle.

Makes the Feaster voiceover on the Iggy tribute video even more hilarious now.

I hope at the presser Burke walks out and says "Feaster likes Butler, I don't... So I fired him"

I don't view the timing as bad or odd.
This is a critical juncture for the franchise. With the Olympicsthis and an extended deadline to accommodate it, Calgary really needs to accelerate the trade schedule, likely with several trades following burkes roster freeze.

I guess having the #1 team in the AHL with numerous rookie players leading the AHL in scoring is pretty horrible.

Finally. This should've been done the day before Burke was hired. Didn't make sense to let this odd situation continue. Maybe Burke felt obligated to give them some time to do something, but I don't know what they could've done to wow him enough to keep their jobs.
Now he can take things his direction. Will be very, very interested to see where he goes. Will he be GM or will he hire a guy? What does this mean for Hartley? Conroy?
Biggest non-player news since Darryl Sutter was fired IMO.
