Monahan is better. You know why? Because he's our Monahan. He'll always be better in our hearts.

I'm not trashing Iginla, he's my 3rd favorite player of all time.. I just posted an observation.

At this point, people who do that seem like they are trashing a guy just because he got older. Plus we all know he'll get on a hot streak and score 10 goals in 9 games like he does every year. He and the bruins will be fine.

The argument that Monahan could be better than McKinnon is no more out to lunch than McKinnon being better than Monahan. He was taken 5 players later, it's not out to lunch to think he may end up being better. 8 games is too little of a sample obviously, but the draft is over and where you were taken means f*** all now.

I wouldn't be shocked if Monahan got sent back. I would be sad, but I wouldn't be surprised.
With Horak called up and Stajan healthy again that means they have too many centers, so either they have to move someone to the wing or send someone away. Stajan and Backlund aren't going anywhere, Stajan might be traded later in the year though. I doubt they'd risk sending Colborne through waivers, and why call Horak up if they're not going to keep him?
Discuss.

The first overall pick does not always end up being the best player in the draft. So not sure why some think its absurd to say that Monahan may be a better player than Mackinnen when it's all said and done.
Remember, if the NHL drafted 17 year olds instead of 18, Sean would've been a top three pick. Things can change on a yearly basis.

Perfect examples of this are Doug Wickenheiser (not to be confused with superstar Hayley Wickenheiser), Patrick Stefan, and Alexander Daigle.
All #1 pics, and the best players out there in their draft year (according to scientific analysis by the scouts ) and all busts.
Not saying MacKinnen will be a bust.. just saying that its a possibility that he isn't the best player picked.

Also Monahan wasn't given his spot on the Flames unlike Mackinnen he has defied the odds on a 6th overall 18-19 year old kid and made a big impact.
Mackinnen i truly believe would have made the team regardless. The Avs attendance has been dwindling and so has the interest now they are rushing to the gates. Mackinnen is a ticket draw. So is Monahan but if he struggled the flames would have shipped him back 5 games ago.
Who is going to be better way to early to say but i always pull for the underdog especially if he is playing for the home team. The smart money is on the talented Mackinnen but i think the season ending results are going to be closer than they maybe were predicted after the draft.

I would be and so would everyone else (with the possible exception of Bob McKenzie) out there that pays attention to hockey. It would be a terrible move by the Flames. No good would come of it. Just bad stuff down the road.

Okay, maybe a little surprised, but part of me thinks it might still happen because of the reasons I pointed out.
Of course I hope I'm wrong. He's arguably been not only good for a rookie, but one of the best Flames players overall.

Didnt know Stajan was healthy... Why isnt he in the lineup for tonight's game? maybe Horak is a placeholder until Stajan is ready to slot in?

He's been cleared to practice, so I would assume he's close to being healthy again. Maybe you're right and Horak gets sent back down when Stajan is back in the lineup.

Theres no way Money-hands gets sent down.
People are just thinking/talking about it because they love suspense and drama.
It is as likely as Crosby being traded to the Flames imo.
This kid has forced feasters hand. Simple as. The only part that kind of makes me frown is these 3 names.
Reinhart
Horak
Knight
They all pushed very very hard for a spot and Money basically made the Flames choose him with his play. Not saying we wont see these players with the big club...but with Colborne, Stajan, Monahan, Backlund, and Street now who has made an impression - they will definitely have less time up with the Flames than they were hoping for.
Hopefully those 3 just keep working hard and take their chance when they get it.
As it stands - even though I kind of feel for them - I think Monahan has just earned it. Simple as.

They say that he is a Joey Mullen fan and wants to wear his old number.
That means his new nickname will be Monostat 7.

Monahan has a shot at 30 goals and to be honest, I think he is going to be a franchise player. I could be jumping the gun, but he is putting the puck in net.
Scoring goals is something you can not teach. Having "finish", and scoring regularly is a rarity in the NHL (30+ goal scorers), and having one that can produce on a regular basis is considered a franchise player (Jarome Iginla).
Now obviously Monahan has a lot of developing to do, and he has a lot to learn and a lot of improvement. But you cant teach goal scoring. You can teach systems, and work on your game...you get my point.
